Salmon fishing has been decent some days and very good on other days. The Happy Hooker with Captain Jonathan Smith at the wheel has been smacking a lot of halibut outside the Golden Gate while working the bars and coastal beaches. For example, on the Hooker’s last live bait potluck trip they boated 47 halibut and 8 bass for 28 anglers. Average size halibut are going 8 to 10 pounds, while the largest fish weight 30 plus pounds. Captain Quang of Goldeneye 2000 Sportfishing has been putting his anglers on fantastic halibut fishing in recent days. On slow days, his anglers are averaging 2 halibut per rod. On the best days, they are scoring limits. The New Easy Rider with Captain Joey Gallia at the helm has been focused on salmon trolling. The scores have ranged from full limits to about a fish per rod on the slower days. The kings average about 10 pounds and range up into the middle 20’s. Captain Hayden Mullins of Dragon Sportfishing has been fishing out of the Emeryville Marina and is mixing things up. Some days Hayden fishes kings, other days he fishes halibut, but the results are consistently the same…. Limits! Hayden will be in Emeryville for another month or so and then he’ll head back up to Pittsburg for sturgeon and the outlook is outstanding for an exciting early fall bite. Captain Merlin Kolb of Mike Aughney’s Reel Magic went salmon trolling on his latest trip but switched over to rockfishing for 7 limits plus a few lings. FISHERMAN’S WHARF Halibut and Salmon Bite Outside Gate, Striped Bass Hit in Bay SAN FRANCISCO – Salmon fishing remains productive for anglers venturing outside of the Golden Gate aboard the Wacky Jacky with Captain Jacky Douglas.
