A Great Experience Fishing on
the Sea Eagle FishSup
To be honest, I was a little intimidated by the FishSup 126. It’s an inflatable
paddle board and I don’t have a lot of experience on one. I remember a few
years back I tried to get on one and after a couple attempts; I ended up in the
water. After that, I let the kids have it back.
This trip was a little different though because I not only wanted to stay
on the FishSup but I wanted to fish off of it as well. I took it out to a lake
recently to try my hand at bass fishing. The day before I was scheduled to
go to the lake I got myself more familiar with the FishSup. The first thing I
had to do was inflate it. The BP12 Single Stage Electric Pump is awesome
because it takes the guess work out of the equation. This pump allows you
to set your desired PSI and it will automatically stop when it reaches your
desired setting. Having this pump makes all the difference in the world. It
took minutes to completely inflate the FishSup. It felt as hard as a regular
stand up paddle board and in my opinion you don’t realize it’s an inflatable
once it is fully inflated.
The FishSup weighs 45 lbs., is 12 ft. 6 in. long, and 3 ft.
4 in. wide. The load capacity is 2 people or 500 lbs. and
I would have to agree with the SeaEagle website when
they say, “Sea Eagle Fishing Inflatable SUPs are the most
versatile stand-up paddleboards in the world! Sit, stand,
fish, motor, troll - designed for fishermen always on the
go! Extremely portable and affordable, these fishing
SUPs are incredibly stable and easy to use, set up in
under 10 minutes.”
Once the FishSup was fully inflated, I added the
upgraded seat to it. I also added the 3 fins to the bottom
of the FishSup in order to allow more control. It took
total of 10 minutes to get it water ready. I then deflated
the FishSup for easier transport and packed it in my truck
for the morning trip.
I arrived at the lake and met Chris Ditter from HeadRush
SportFishing at 5:30 a.m. Chris is an avid kayaker when
not guiding his clients for salmon or striper on the Cali-
fornia Delta, Sacramento or Feather River. He prepared
his kayak and I started my process of getting my FishSup
inflated and ready to fish. We were in the water right at
sunrise with hopes of catching some topwater bass.
Here’s the moment I was waiting for. Would I be able
to balance on the FishSup? Would I fall off it and lose
the rods, reels and other gear I had on the FishSup?
Well, it was much easier than I thought that it would
be. The FishSup is so wide and sturdy that I had
no problem balancing. I passed the first and most
important test.
The next test was to see how easy it was to fish
off the FishSup. It didn’t take long to learn that
the FishSup is easy to maneuver and making casts from it was a breeze. Fishing
was fairly consistent first thing in the morning. Chris started the day off when
he hooked a good size bass around the 4 pound range. Not long after he released
that fish, he was hooked up again on another decent sized bass. My first fish
came when I was working the banks with a topwater bait. There were some
isolated tree branches about 10 feet from the bank and when my bait got close to
those branches, a bass crushed the bait! That blow up was awesome and I won’t
forget that fish especially since it was the first fish I caught on the FishSup. What
I learned by catching that fish is that the swivel seat which rotates 360 degrees, is
a huge benefit to the FishSup. Not only is it there when you get tired of standing
but it’s great to have when you are fighting a fish. Fish tend to want to swim all
around and having the ability to swivel in the same direction as the fish makes a
world of a difference.
As I was on the water I was thinking of different ways that you could use the
FishSup. I believe that it belongs on every camping trip when you are near the
water. It would be awesome to get on and take for a leisurely ride or take it to go
fishing.
I often camp at Lake New Hogan and there are a lot of striped bass boils out
there during the summer time. The FishSup would be perfect if one of these
boils happen in the cove you are camping in. It would only take you a couple of
seconds to jump on it and paddle out to the boil.
Discovery Bay is another perfect place that I think the FishSup would be
perfect to fish off of. The FishSup is easy to maneuver and would be perfect
when you wanted to fish the docks.
I cannot convey through this article how much fun I had while just paddling
around and fishing on the FishSup. It’s comfortable, sturdy, and extremely fun to
be on. If you plan to be around the water and want to try something different you
should definitely give the FishSup a try. There are so many possibilities with the
FishSup. To learn more, visit www.SeaEagle.com.
