king salmon and lost just about that many to sea
lions. They also brought in 6 petrale sole. The
salmon were deep, making it hard to get them
past the sea lions and tangles.”
The rockfish action continues to be excellent.

The 25 anglers aboard the Kahuna on their
latest trip down the Monterey County Coast
bagged 250 rockfish and 4 lingcod. The 22
anglers aboard the Kahuna on the previous
trip landed 27 copper rockfish, 9 lingcod, 17
assorted rockfish and 176 vermilion rockfish.
The 26 anglers aboard the Checkmate out
of Chris’ Fishing Trips on Saturday, August
31 bagged 3 lingcod and limits of rockfish.
The 15 anglers aboard the Caroline caught 1
lingcod and 150 rockfish the same day.
The 19 anglers going out on the last day of
the salmon season landed 26 king salmon
while mooching aboard the Checkmate.
“The inshore fishing is the way to go here
in Santa Cruz,” said Todd Fraser of Bayside
Marine “There were good scores of lingcod,
halibut and rockfish caught up the coast near
4 Mile today. The anglers who trolled from the
Cement Ship to Pajaro had some good action
on halibut.”
“There was one boat that saw some type
of tuna jumping about 12 miles out but they
went down when he got ,” said
Fraser. “There are maybe bluefin
or bonita on the warm water
breaks in the Canyon. A few
striped bass were caught off
the Jetty. The weather was
flat calm all morning.
