RESERVOIRS OREGON HOUSE – While night fishing
for catfish on August 28, Hilario Sandoval
of Vacaville landed what could be the
largest catfish – or any fish for that matter
– landed at Collins Lake.
“It probably topped the record, but our
certified scale goes up to 22 pounds,” said
Lincoln Young of Collins Lake Recreation
Area. “After he landed the fish first thing in
the morning, our staff went to his campsite
with another scale that recorded weights
over 22 pounds, but he had already cut up
the fish by that time.”
“I estimate the fish weighed 30 to 35
pounds, based on the photograph,” said
Young. “The angler was fishing chicken
livers off shore between the marina and
the beach when he hooked the huge fish.”
“Over the past couple of weeks, we
haven’t seen huge numbers of fish, but
we have seen a good variety of fish,” he
noted. “Normally we see mostly all catfish
this time of years, but this year we’re not
seeing only catfish, but rainbow trout and
black bass. I believe the high water level
for this time of year – only 16-1/2 feet from
full – may have something to do with it.”
The second biggest fish reported in was
a 9 lb. channel catfish landed by Gabriel
Sanchez of Sacramento. He was soaking
redworms off the beach.
Jason Marquez of Sacramento had a
great day bait fishing with nightcrawlers
from the dam when he landed five trout up
to 7 pounds.
Another trout fishing enthusiast, Lucas
Alves of Petaluma, reeled in two rainbows
weighing 3 and 2-12/ pounds while deep
trolling at 40 feet deep. On the next day,
he landed five trout to 2-1/4 pounds while
trolling also.
Greg Haughlin topped the bass catches
with a 5-3/5 lb. spotted bass that he
landed while trolling a Rapala from a
kayak on the east side of the lake.
“The trout fishing should get better
this fall when the water cools and the
trout move up near the surface,” stated

DOBBINS – There are two groups of
kokanee salmon that anglers are now
targeting at Bullards Bar Reservoir.
The first group is fish transitioning into
spawning mode in the North Fork of the
Yuba arm above Garden Point. These fish
average 12 to 15 inches long, according
to Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and
Tackle.
The second group is fish that haven’t
gone into spawning mode that are holding
in the deep water near the dam. These
salmon are also in the 12 to 15 inch
range.
“Anglers are doing best while trolling
with spinner hoochies, tipped with white
corn, behind Sling Blade dodgers at 80
feet and deeper,” said Newston. “The
best hoochie colors are purple/green and
purple/chartreuse.”
Newton hasn’t heard any reports from
trout or black bass anglers at Bullards Bar
lately.
Fishing pressure remains very light at
Englebright Reservoir. Rainbow trout
are available for anglers trolling with
nightcrawlers, spoons and spinners
behind dodgers or flashers.
Bullards Bar is holding 714,188 acre feet
of water, 74 percent of capacity and 111
percent of average.
Englebright Reservoir is holding 63,541
acre feet of water, 96 percent of capacity
and 106 percent of average.
