Halibut, Stripers & Salmon
Hold Center Stage
BERKELEY- “The live bait
potluck action inside the bay is
pretty much wide open right now,”
exclaimed Captain Chris Smith of
Pacific Dream Sportfishing. “I’ve
got 34 halibut in the box right now.
The tide is starting to peak so I’m
going to go get some stripers.”
“Yesterday we ended up with 66
stripers and 32 halibut for our 33
anglers. This is probably the best
live bait season I’ve ever seen.
The halibut bite just keeps going
and going and now we’ve got limit
style striper fishing underway. I
have no idea how long this fishing
is going to hold up, but as long as
we have live bait and the fish are
here we are going to keep putting
anglers on them,” said Smith.
Salmon fishing has backed off
some in terms of numbers but the
quality of the fish is tremendous
with lots of 15 plus pound fish
in the mix. The New Easy Rider
has been scoring about a fish
per rod on most trips on kings
that routinely range up into the
20-pound class.
“We had a unique combo trip
yesterday,” reported Captain
James Smith of California Dawn
Sportfishing. “Our charter wanted
to target both big sharks and do
some live bait potluck fishing.
We ended up with 40 stripers,
13 halibut and 8 sevengill sharks
to about 400 pounds. The big
sharks were released, while we
kept a few smaller fish for the
table.”

BODEGA BAY -
There’s something
strange in the
