For stripers, anglers should
try fishing in the Port of
Sacramento or Sacramento
Deepwater Channel. Boaters
and kayakers should drift
jumbo minnows, jig spoons
and troll with Yo-Zuris and
other lures. Shore fishermen
should toss out pileworms,
jumbo minnows, chicken livers
and swimbaits.
The top sports for fall catfish
are Steelhead Creek, Lisbon
Slough and the Sutter Bypass.
Anglers employ mackerel,
chicken livers and anchovies
to entice the cats.

RIO VISTA
Trollers Battle Quality Striped
Bass
PITTSBURG – Striped bass fishing is
still going strong off the West Bank of the
Sacramento River near Collinsville and in
Broad Slough.
Clyde Wands caught and released 9
striped bass to 9 pounds while trolling
deep-driving Yo-Zuri lures on his latest
trip, while Dave Houston hooked and
released 10 stripers to 23 pounds the
same day. “I was going to go trolling for
stripers today, but the wind came up and I
decided not to go out,” said Wands.
Wands also took third place in the
California Striped Bass Association Isleton
Chapter Salmon Derby on Saturday,
September 14 with a salmon over 7
pounds that he caught while trolling the
Sacramento River.
“The salmon fishing was slow during the
derby,” said Wands. “Only a few fish were
caught in the event.”
If you want to have a lot of light tackle
fun, try smallmouth bass fishing in Miner,
Steamboat and Elk sloughs. Throw out
crawdad crankbaits, Senkos and plastic
worms off riprapped banks for fish ranging
from undersized to 4 pounds.
The 72nd Rio Vista Bass Derby and
Festival will take place from October 11-
13th with information at www:bassfestival.

ROLLINS/SCOTTS FLAT
LAKES
Fishing Hot Or Not Depending
On Perspective…
COLFAX - The fishing at Rollins and
Scotts Flat Lakes is either hot or painfully
slow depending on the perspective of the
angler in question.
If you are a trouter determined to bang
rainbows and browns, the fishing ranges
from extremely slow to downright horrible
and that’s going to be the reality until the
water temperature drops and the CDFW
sees fit to honor Placer and Nevada
County anglers with a fish plant or two.
On the other hand, if tangling with a mix
of bass, panfish and catfish is something
that appeals to you, the action at these
two foothill lakes ranges from very good to
excellent depending on the day.
Both lake’s offer solid topwater action
