Guide Service “The weather has been
very cold in the mornings, but nice after
the sun comes up. The fishing has been
great when they want to bite, but we are
seeing fish every day. The salmon are
spawning now and the steelhead are
sitting behind the redds looking to eat
those floating eggs.”
The first week of Fall Chinook spawning
at the Trinity River Hatchery produced
dismal numbers. How the fish counters
went from seeing so many fish at the
Willow Creek Weir in one week to less
than a quarter of that the next week is a
mystery.
The hatchery has trapped 88 fall
Chinooks to date, including 17 grilse
and 71 adults. The total Chinook count
(including springers) to date is 4,566,
including 549 grilse and 4,017 adults. The
hatchery has not trapped any coho this
year and has trapped 9 steelhead to date.
The recreational salmon quota is 7,637
adult Chinook Salmon for 2019. At press
time, the CDFW had reported the quota
on the lower Klamath River from Highway
96 to the mouth won’t be met this year.
Just under 65 percent of the quota had
been met and efforts on the lower river
were minimal. The quota was not met in
other sections of the Klamath and Trinity
rivers either.
For more information, call the Klamath-
Trinity River hotline at (800) 564-6479.

16.4 Lb. Catfish Tops Fall

LIVERMORE – While rainbow trout are
providing the most consistent action at
Los Vaqueros Reservoir this fall, it was a
catfish that topped recent catches at the
lake.
Jose Camacho caught a 16.40 lb.
catfish on an anchovy over by the Dam
in late October. He and his fishing buddy
also landed their limits of rainbows while
fishing from a rental boat.
Yekam El Nakar had a great day
of fishing when he bagged two trout
weighing 7.3 and 7.2 pounds while using
night crawlers in South Cove in early
November.
“Shore anglers have the most success
using garlic scented PowerBait followed

Landlocked Kings Hitting in
Limesaddle Arm
OROVILLE – Boaters fishing Lake
Oroville are still catching some quality
landlocked king salmon, but the fish are
further up in the river arms this time of
year.
“One angler fishing in the West Branch
near Limesaddle reported catching a lot of
salmon in the 17 to 19 inch range, along
with a few bigger fish in the 4 to 5 lb.
range,” reported Craig Newton at Willfish
Bait and Tackle. “Boaters are doing best
trolling with glow hoochies, tipped with
anchovy strips, behind dodgers.”
For salmon trolling, Jamey Sorenson
at North Valley Tackle and Pro Shop also
recommended tipping the hoochies with 2
inch Keitech Easy Shiner lures in a shad
pattern.
Sorenson reported on the North Valley
Tackle Open at Lake Oroville on Saturday,
November 2. The total payout was $5700
+ hundreds in prizes.
“It was a beautiful day on Lake Oroville
for the 3rd annual North Valley Tackle
Open. Fifty-eight boats came out to fish
and enjoy a well-run tournament,” said
Sorenson. “We had lots of first time
tournament anglers and some father and
son teams. It was a good family event and
we are planning another one in spring. We
gave away some great prizes in addition
to the cash payouts.”
The first through fifth place winners in
the event were:
1) Shane Robertson/Mike Osborne
$1280 + $170 for 2nd big fish.
2) Wayne Chaney/Wade Wheaton $650
3) Chris Layton $600
4) Brent O’Neill/David Griswold $500 +
$300 for Daves 1st place big fish.
5) Dave Hill/Don Reighley $450 + $100
for 3rd big fish.
Lake Oroville is holding 2,038,327 acre
feet of water, 58 percent of capacity and
96 percent of average. The lake level is
786.05 feet in elevation.
The Spillway Boat Ramp area is now
open to the public Friday through Sunday
from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Boat Ramp
area will remain closed Monday through
Thursday as construction activities
continue.
