COLLINS LAKE
cont.
Fish have been stacking up in
the channel as cool oxygen rich
water has been flowing pretty
constantly down the inlet for
a few weeks now. They’re not
always biting but they are up
there every day.
One young angler, Tucker
Baldwin of Auburn, caught a
whopper 12 inch redear sunfish
while fishing with his dad Max.
“Our little guy wanted to
make sure he had a chance at
making the brag board,” Max
Baldwin. “Tucker caught his 12”
fish just after sunrise, Tuesday,
November 26th on a neon green
night crawler near the boat
rental/swim dock. Cold, wind
and weather moved in fast, but
he wouldn’t be denied a chance
at catching a fish.’

DON PEDRO LAKE
Largemouths Hitting Glide Baits
Abby headed out to Lake Del Valle in search of trout on October 28 and scored this amazing
rainbow.

LA GRANGE – The bass bite is still tough on
Don Pedro, but Ryan Cook of Ryan Cook’s Fishing
reported a better quality of largemouth to 4 pounds
has been found on glide baits recently, and the jig
bite is picking up.
The best action has been found from 20 to 40
feet, and once again, finding bait is the key. The
American Bass Association is holding a tournament
at the lake this Saturday, and although the numbers
of participants is expected to be small, there will be
some of the top northern California bass fishermen
in competition with each other.
Few trout and king salmon reports, but the
remaining rainbows in the lake should be moving
closer and closer to the surface. The lake held at 78
percent of capacity.

DAVIS LAKE
Bank Anglers Trudge Through Snow for
Big Rainbows
PORTOLA – A little ice was beginning to form at the
edges of the north end of Lake Davis at press time, but
anglers were still hooking quality rainbows while trudging
through the snow down to the lake.
“We received 24 inches during the first storm, but it’s
light powder, so it’s settled down to about a foot,” said
Jeanne Graham at J&J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort.
“People are throwing out PowerBait and worms in Mallard
Cove and Coot Bay. They are walking down through the
snow about ¼ mile from the road.”
She hasn’t heard any reports from trollers or fly fishers
since the first big storm hit the region. “I don’t know how
you would be able to launch a boat at this time,” she noted.
There are plenty of trout in the lake for the ice fishing
season. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife
recently stocked another 5,000 pounds of rainbow trout
in Lake Davis, continuing to boost catch rates on the
reservoir. These fish follow the 6,000 pounds of trout
stocked in September, including 2,000 pounds of Eagle
Lake trout.
Lake Davis is holding 63,330 acre feet of water, 76
percent of capacity and 111 percent of average.

DEL VALLE LAKE
Rainbow and Lightning Trout Plants Pace
the Catches
LIVERMORE – Trout and striped bass are the two hottest
angling options at Lake Del Valle, based on the weigh-ins
of fish at the marina.
Mt. Lassen Fish Hatchery planted 500 pounds of
Lightning Trout, along with 700 pounds of rainbow trout,
during the week of November 25 to 29. The park district
planted another 750 pounds of rainbow trout the week of
December 2-6.
“The weather has been rainy and cold,” said Rosa Real of
the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company. “The water has
been murky, but once you get past the Lower Narrows it
clears up. The water temperature is 48 degrees now.”
“The hot spots are across from Marina, Lowers Narrows,
Venados Group site, Badger Cove and Swallow Bay,”
she advised. “The favorite lures are rainbow and gold
Kastmasters, Mice Tails, fire tiger Panther Martins. The top
baits are large nightcrawlers and PowerBait.”
Big fish honors go to Sonja Brown from Livermore, who
caught a 4.65 lb. rainbow trout and a 4.15 lb. lightning trout
across from the Marina while using Mice Tails.
Nick Winter, Joe Burke, Kevin Garcia, Nate Burke from
Livermore teamed up to catch an 8 lb. rainbow trout and
a 6 lb. Lightning Trout in the Narrows while throwing out a
Firetiger Panther Martin.
Ryan from Pleasanton caught a 7.2 lb. trout from across
the Marina while tossing out a rainbow Kastmaster. John
Fletcher from San Ramon caught a 5 lb. trout in the
Narrows while using a spoon.
Gary Wong from Fremont, caught a 6.65 lb. trout at the
West Beach on a lure. Eddie Bucio from San Jose caught
4.85 lb. trout at the Marina using Mice Tails.
Big striper honors go to Matthew Thomas from San Jose,
who landed two 9.80 lb. and 6.5 lb. striped bass at the Dam
& Swallow Bay while soaking anchovies and clams.
