10 FRESHWATER Dec 20, 2019 - Jan 3, 2020 FRESHWATER REPORTS: CONTINUED FROM PG 8 EAGLE LAKE Ice Brings Season To Early End SPALDING - While it legal to fish Eagle Lake all the way up to New Year’s Eve, very few people have been chasing trout at the lake. Sure, the trout are still biting in open water areas, but near shore ice has made it unwise or downright dangerous to launch boats at the lake. Why is the ice dangerous? First, it’s easy to damage of flip your boat when trying to push through ice. Even thin ice is heavy and unforgiving. Second even if you successfully break out to open water, you have to think about what could happen while you’re fishing. Will the ice freeze up more solidly leaving you stranded offshore of the ramp? Will a breeze come up and push a broad band of surface ice up against the ice leaving you stranded a couple hundred yards offshore? In short, the risk isn’t worth the reward, so fishing is effectively over at Eagle. Here’s what Captain Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’s Guide Service had to say as he wrapped up his Eagle Lake season. “My camp at Eagle Lake has been disassembled, as the leading edge of the first significant winter storm pushes in. It was a great fall season at the lake with outstanding action on some beautiful fish. May this winter bring lots more water to this special place. Thank you to all the clients that came up to Eagle Lake to fish with us this season and special thanks to Johnny and Scott at the marina and campground. See you next September.” EAST DELTA Striped Bass Are Moving In S G laSS l ur eS Fish Lake Tahoe! DaiLy Trips 90 (800) 877–1462 (530)546–4444 Monster trout are being caught at Lake Amador this fall.
