FRESHWATER VOL.39 • ISS. 3 FRESHWATER REPORTS: CONTINUED FROM PG 4 BULLARDS BAR/ENGLEBRIGHT RESERVOIRS cont. fish. “I had an awesome start to the winter kokanee fishing at Bullard’s Bar on my first trip to the lake this winter,” reported Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service. “The Brad’s Cut Plug scented with Pro-Cure’s Bloody Tuna and anise, didn’t let me down. Steve Ramsey and I caught ten-fish limits of kokanee with ease.” “There were lots of 8 to 9 inch fish,” he said. “The fish averaged 9 to 10 inches long. We kept the bigger fish in the 10-1/2 to 12 inch range” “The fish were found from 30 to 60 feet, but the fishing was best at 45 to 50 feet deep,” said Reimers. “Ramsey also hooked fish while using mini-hoochies. We concentrated on the area near the dam.” On the following trip, Reimers and Jimmy Downs caught limits of kokanee again at Bullards Bar. “Our biggest fish was 13-1/4 inches long,” said Reimers. “We caught all of our fish on Brad’s kokanee series Cut Plugs..” Bullards Bar is holding 638,210 acre feet of water, 66 percent of capacity and 118 percent of average. Fishing pressure is light at Englebright Reservoir. Anglers interested in hooking rainbow and brown trout should troll Rapalas, Speedy Shiners or nightcrawlers in the river arm. Englebright Reservoir is holding 66,759 acre feet of water, 95 percent of capacity and 106 percent of average. - Dan Bacher CAMANCHE LAKE Shore Anglers, Trollers Share in Trout Bounty BURSON – Trout plants continue at the Lake Camanche and the latest plant of 3600 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbows was split between the North Shore Marina, South Shore Marina, and the South Shore Pond. The total since October is now up to 24,600 pounds. The progression of trout plants is contributing to excellent trolling success for experienced anglers as there have been huge rainbows in excess of 10 pounds landed this week. Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine Guide Service only enhanced his reputation as the top troller and guide on the lake as he put client Jason Godfrey of Volcano onto a limit of rainbows including two huge trout at 10.8 and 8.1 pounds. Dunham said, “We were in the Narrows running either EAGLE LAKE CABIN RENTALS Furnished Cabins from $60 per night or $360 per week best times for topwater trout. There have been some quality rainbows taken out of the South Pond, but the shorelines have been crowded, particularly on the weekends. Trout dough bait, nightcrawlers, or small crankbaits or spoons work best in the pond. The trout plants should improve the bass bite as the bass get used to chasing the smaller rainbows near the surface, but the swimbait bite is feast or famine right now, Anglers that hit Eagle Lake this November experienced some memorable as finesse action. Bass fishing is tough this time of year. Anglers are fishing with plastic worms, Senkos or swim baits to entice the largemouths in deeper water, where the water is warmer. Remember to fish your baits slow, since bass metabolisms slow down in the cold water. The lake management advises anglers practice catch and release for bass as they are not stocked into the lake. CLEAR LAKE Take Your Pick of Bass, Catfish or Crappie WINTERS – The water temperature is cold at Clear Lake, but you can catch black bass, channel catfish or crappie, depending on which species you plan to target on any given day. Don Paganelli of Paganelli’s Bass Fishing Experience reported top-notch minnow drifting for largemouth bass during a late December fishing adventure at Clear Lake. “The two anglers caught a total of 15 bass, ranging from 2 to 8 pounds, while drifting minnows at 15 feet deep in the Jago Bay area,” said Paganelli. “The fish averaged 3 to 4 pounds each.” “It was 28 degrees when we got on the lake in the morning, but it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day with no wind,” said Paganelli. “The surface water temperature was 53 degrees.” CONTINUED ON PG 8 Everything You Need For Spring Fishing & Turkey Hunting At Kittle’s Cast And Blast Sale On April 4! ocated in Colusa, Ca. in the heart of the Sac Valley, Kittle’s is known throughout California for its large inventory outdoor equipment, Sitka Gear and guns.
