“For a change of pace, I’ve spent some
time targeting spotted bass and I’ve found
them holding from 20 to 35 feet deep in
the main lake and the Greenhorn Arm.
Ned Rigs are working. I’ve been getting
them on quarter ounce darter heads,
baited with a 3-inch section of a light-
colored Senko. That rig doesn’t look like
much, but it’s pretty effective when the
bass are feeding on smelt,” tipped Pleece.
RUSSIAN RIVER
Target Steelies When River Is
Fishable
GUERNEVILLE – February is one of
the peak months for steelhead returns
and the long term forecast calls for dry
weather, so the river should be fishable.
The mouth of the river closed for a bit one
day, but self-breached several hours later.
“The push of water out into the ocean
FRESHWATER
coupled with big tides may have brought
in some fish,” said Steve Jackson of
King’s Sport and Tackle. “We have
received several reports of fishermen
seeing large schools of fish moving
up river by reliable sources! Ideal river
conditions, possible pushes of fish and
beautiful weather, what else can you ask
for!”
Updated hatchery numbers are 333 at
Warm Springs and 128 at Coyote. “Get
out while the storm doors are closed,”
added Jackson.
