18 FRESHWATER March 13-27, 2020 FRESHWATER REPORTS: Service. “I’ve been trolling Shallow Glass Spinners off downriggers as deep as 60 feet and I’ve been toplining with Yakima Mag Lips. Both the spinners and the plugs are getting hit,” said Shallow. “We’ve been getting fish in a variety of different sizes. Our biggest fish last week went about 14 pounds. We released it without putting it on the scale, but I’m usually pretty accurate with my guesses in terms of weight,” Shallow concluded. We started off back trolling with Mag Lip plugs and Rooster Tail spinners. We hooked 7 trout right away, but we only landed 3 of them,” said Finch. “When the plug big slowed down we started side drifting with cured roe, beads and night crawlers. Ray hooked the first fish and it turned out to be our only steelhead. It was 23 inches long and chrome bright. It grabbed a night crawler. We spent the rest of the morning hoping for another steelhead, but we didn’t hook anymore. We finished up with 9 trout to 3 pounds and a single steelhead. It was my first time fishing the river and I can’t wait to give it another try. The trout are very pretty and put up a great fight,” exclaimed Finch.
