TROUT ANGLERS CHALLENGE
March 13-27, 2020

NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge Visits Lake Pardee On
March 14 and October 10!
T
he hottest trout fishing tournament
series in the country, the NorCal
Trout Angler’s Challenge Series, is slated
to visit Lake Pardee on March 14 and
October 10. Big numbers of rainbows and
perhaps a jumbo brown trout or two will
test the skills of both boaters and bank
anglers!
Lake Pardee stands out among Cali-
fornia reservoirs for the fine trout, kokanee
and black bass fishing that it provides
for families either going on day trips or
camping adventures there. With heavy
plants of rainbow trout in the 1 to 5-pound
range throughout the season, ninety
percent of the anglers go there for the trout
or kokanee.
Pardee, an East Bay Municipal
Utility District (EBMUD) reservoir, is
managed by the Rocky Mountain Recre-
ation Company. The lake is formed on the Mokelumne River near Ione in
the Mother Lode region and is planted heavily with rainbow trout
throughout the season.
Though the trout average 1 to 1-1/2 pounds, plenty
of trophy-sized rainbows, including some beautiful
holdovers, are caught every year at Pardee.
Rainbows are not the only salmonid caught at Pardee.
The l
ake features a sleeper wild population of German
browns that spawns in the Mokelumne River.
The other salmonid fishery is for kokanee salmon.
The kokanee are generally known for their numbers
than their size at Pardee.
Pardee features some of the best-managed and
family-friendly facilities of any reservoir in the state,
with beautifully landscaped grounds, a well maintained
marina and launch ramp and superb camping facilities.

Win With Wedding Rings
At Lake Pardee! by Cal Kellogg
W
edding Ring Spinners have
been catching trout for decades
and they work exceptionally well when it’s
time to round up rainbows at Lake Pardee.
I’ll bet most of us think of the same
thing when we think about trout fishing
with a Wedding Ring Spinner. We
visualize a small size 10 red
Wedding Ring with a chrome
or brass blade tipped with a
half inch piece of worm.
That’s a killer combo for
sure, but if you want to go
big and target big trout that
lure just isn’t going to fill the
bill. Wouldn’t it be great if we
could get our hands on a really
big Wedding Ring that
we could tip
with half a
full size
night
crawler?
Well they are great. Wedding Rings are
offered in a full line of sizes from tiny
models tipped with size 10 hooks and big
“SUPER” models sporting a No. 4 hook.
This is a lure that stays in the strike zone
for a long period, the blade draws fish
from long distances and when a trout
sees the lure and worm combo it
sees a substantial easy to catch
meal…BOOM!
