Collins Lake Features Both Camping Sites & Camping Cabins ! by Cal Kellogg
With great fishing for trout and other species , a full service store , playground for the kids and more , Collins Lake is a great place for an overnight adventure , weekend getaway or a full blown vacation . Camping And RV Spots The Collins Lake Recreation Area literally has hundreds of campsites to choose from . There are standard sites without hookups , lake front sites with electric and water , standard sites with electric and water as well as sites with electric , water and sewer hookups . There are also tent sites available . Cabins Cabins are a great way to stay at the lake without having to set up tents or haul a trailer . As of 2015 Collins has seven Large Cabins available . The Sierra and Nevada cabins , as well as the smaller Placer cabin , are located above the main marina half way between the Store and the Beach . The Yuba , Sutter , Butte & Lassen cabins are located at the far North end of the campground . The Plumas cabin is located near the Park Office and Store . Large cabins have a 33 ’ by 12 ’ layout that includes 2 bedrooms , one bathroom with a shower , a covered porch with tables and chairs . Tip Your Apex ?
Apex Lures are deadly on trout , landlocked kings and kokanee , that ’ s no secret . But what many anglers don ’ t realize
is that at times dressing your Apex with bait can be the extra stimulus that makes fish strike . Experienced trout anglers often dress their Apex Lures with a small piece of worm threaded on the hook . For kings a thin strip of anchovy skin works great . And of course , if ‘ kokes are the target you ’ ll want to tip the lure with either shoepeg corn or a tiny piece of canned pink “ salad ” shrimp . When tipping be sure to check the action of your lure in the water to ensure that you haven ’ t overwhelmed the lure action by using a piece of bait that is too large . If you find the action impaired decrease the size of the bait until the action is restored and hang on because hard strikes will follow !
