DON PEDRO LAKE cont .
majority of kings are located at 100 feet in depth in the mornings down to 150 feet when the sun comes over the hills , our biggest king came at 55 feet . The kings are easy to identify as they ‘ light up like a neon sign ’ on my Garmin unit ,” he tipped .
“ The holdover rainbows have been more difficult to find as between the smaller rainbows and the spotted bass in the shad schools , it has been hard to get to the holdovers . We put in 3 holdovers , 7 planters , and a king on Saturday along with 4 holdovers , 6 planters , and 2 bass on Sunday ,” said Wise .
“ There is so much bait out there that it is not even funny . The rainbows are at 35 feet in the mornings before dropping to 50 feet by mid-morning . I have been using either Speedy Shiners or the Optimizer Jr . spoons with copper / golds in the mornings before changing over to the more neutral patterns of silver / blue or silver / blue by midmorning .,” he stated .
“ I never put down the same color pattern first thing in the morning as I will run different colors until a pattern is established . If one lure is catching fish , I will switch another rod to that color . You have to let the fish tell you what they want as it is true for speed as well as color . The trout were biting at 2.6 to 2.8 mph on Saturday , but on Sunday , we had to bump it up to 3.2 / 3.3 mph ,” he concluded .

EAGLE LAKE
Rainbow Fishing Improves Daily
SPALDING – Trout fishing is improving daily at Eagle Lake . We are still experiencing Indian Summer daytime temperatures , but the cooler temperatures at night are moving more and more fish into shallower water .
We are catching limits most trips of fish from 2 1 / 2 to 4 lbs . A few 5 lb . Eagle Lake Trout have recently been landed .
The Eagle Lake Trout are on the bite all over the lake : From Pikes Point to Ronald McDonalds we are trolling flies . From Merrill to Christie Campgrounds we are trolling grubs and crawlers . Off Shrimp Island troll Needlefish . In Miners Bay troll Needlefish and flies . Off Pelican Point and the Youth Camp troll grubs and flies .
Recently the days have been cloudless with bright sunny skies . Therefore , the bite has been best early , before the bright sun hits the water . We are catching fish until 10 A . M . but at a slower pace than earlier in the morning . When we start getting cloud cover , the fish will often bite late into the day . - Tim Noxon , Fishtraveler Guide Service . EASTERN SIERRA
Fall Trout Fishing In Full Swing
BISHOP - We are fully into fall fishing now with mixed sizes of fish and really great midge fishing on our local lakes . Nighttime temperatures have now dipped into the cooler sides with some mornings in the 30 ’ s , which quickly warm up by midmorning to the 70 ’ s . Fall is a special time in the eastern sierra as the aspen trees turn from green to yellow and the color contrast is spectacular . Most of the trees have turned now and it is a nice mix of green and

Since there is no aquatic insect activity until the frost melts off in the mornings , we have been starting later on Crowley Lake and have been finding the fish more active in the late morning hours and into the warmer parts of the day . It can be a game of patience and timing this time of year , as sometimes the fishing slows towards the afternoon , but ends up picking up again an hour later as new fish begin to move into shallow water from the deeper areas .
Fish can be found at various depths now , and 6 – 16 feet of water have been very productive . The river channels are starting to see more fish staging up at the mouths as they prepare to move into the rivers and creeks for the fall spawn . Larger streamer patterns can get you into fish right now , but midges have been a strong producer these last few weeks . Varying your depth is important this time of year to stay on the fish .

The Upper Owens River and Hot Creek have been fishing well for these fall fish with egg patterns , small midges , October caddis , and pheasant tails . The Lower Owens River drifting has been fun as the water has now come down to great levels for fishing by boat and some areas along the Wild Trout section have been very wadable now .

EAST DELTA
Sturgeon , Black Bass Offer Top Fishing
STOCKTON - Sturgeon in the Delta remain the most-desired species as the salmon bite continues to be exceedingly slow throughout the entire system as the

The water temperatures remain unseasonably warm , and despite during a normal year the salmon bite is at its peak from midto late-October , the weather conditions are telling the salmon that something is different right now .
Alan Fong of the Fishermen ’ s Warehouse in Sacramento said , “ Fish don ’ t have a calendar , and although many fishermen come in and tell me that they normally are catching salmon right now , it just isn ’ t happening with the water temperatures in the 62 to 64-degree range . Normally , the water temperature should be around 58 degrees at the end of October , and this is when the action takes off . I was up in Liberty Island this week , and I tried for stripers for ½-hour without results so we punched big Brush Hogs on a 1- to 1.5-ounce punch weight .
“ We did well with punching , and the key is to work heavy current as the northern largemouths prefer current . You have to use the heavier weights in the moving water . The big tides affected the striper bite as the weeds and debris has been thick , but Rick Tietz of Blade Runner Spoons caught and released a 30-pound lineside at Liberty on Saturday evening on a River2Sea Swaver ,” said Fong .
Kenji Nakagawa of Lodi and Phenix Rods took a break from chasing striped bass , and he was out in the Pittsburg area on Saturday night , and they found a good sturgeon bite at the turn of the incoming tide from 11:00 p . m . to 2:30 a . m . with three slot-limit sturgeon along with a couple of shakers , all on roe .
The River Rotters held their annual salmon derby out of Wimpy ’ s Marina on the Mokelumne River on Saturday , and only 4 salmon to 19 pounds were weighed in with three of the salmon coming on the Mokelumne .
Mark Stewart of Galt landed a 27-pound salmon near Walnut Grove on the Old Sacramento River using a Silvertron spinner with chrome blades with purple / pearl beads using 60-pound braid and a 20-pound monofilament leader .
