They saw fish swimming around the boat up high but no biters.” However, the bite improved the following day when the 12 people aboard the boat landed five salmon to 17 pounds off Marina Beach. “All of the fish hit before 9 a.m.,” she noted. Solid bottomfish action is expected on the upcoming rockfish trips that Kahuna is offering. The 16 anglers aboard the Checkmate came back with 2 salmon, while the 11 anglers on the Caroline returned with zero salmon. Rockfishing was much better, with the 17 anglers aboard the Star of Monterey catching limits of rockfish and four lingcod. Anglers going out of Stagnaro’s Fishing Trips in Santa Cruz have reported good rockfish action.. A 7-hour rockfish trip on June 9 produced limits of rockfish for 15 anglers fishing shrimp flies and bait off the Santa Cruz County Coast. - Dan Bacher While rockfish have been the main target of anglers working Central Coast rockpiles, some big lingcod have been in the mix too. Tuna And Marlin Battle Anglers Out Of Cabo “ We are experiencing nice days and some wind in the afternoons and evening,” reported Captain Jerry Chapman of JC Sportfishing. “We have had some very nice weather over the past week. I was out last night and we had some pretty strong north winds that were pretty cool, looks as if they were coming off the Pacific. I think in the afternoons if you’re fishing on the Pacific side expect some rough rides as it has been blowing pretty good in the afternoons. Really as far as temperatures it’s been really warm in the day time with mostly sunny days and cooler evenings.” “Some nice striped marlin have been landed in the 175lb to 200lb range and those are some nice size fish. We have had days over this past week where we have landed multiple marlin. The 1150 to about 3 miles off the arch has been really good for marlin and using ballyhoo, live bait and lures were enticing them. The average size of marlin being caught is 90lb to 150lb which is basically the striped marlin average size. So, no shortage of fishing action this past week with our boats doing very well on all species,” said Chapman. “Tuna angling was wide open for 3 to 4 days last week. They don’t seem to be running with the porpoise so watch for birds. I had friends go out and catch a 200lb tuna. What a day it was for them! Winds have scattered the tuna schools and cooled the water down but it’s starting to warm again and to land tuna you just need to go out and look for them. his amazing black sea bass was pulled out of Mexican waters on March 10 during a long-range adventure aboard the Red Rooster III.
