Thompson Place First in
Folsom Bass Event
FOLSOM – Stacy Barawed,
who was born and raised in Stockton, and
her fishing partner, Matt Thompson, won
first place in the second day of the Folsom
Bass Team tournament held at
Folsom Lake on the weekend
of July 25-26.
They finished the event with
a 6.50-pound bag, anchored
by Stacy’s 2.92-pound spotted
bass, the big fish of the day and
the two-day event. Thompson
was the boater and Barawed
was the non-boater on the
team.
This was the first time that
the Folsom Bass Team had
been on the water for a tournament
since March – and they
successfully pulled off 2 days
of COVID-compliant fishing
tournaments.
“I finally nailed a first place finish in
my first full season with the Folsom Bass
Team,” said Barawed. “With only six
hours allotted to us on Folsom Lake each
day, I did my best to stay laser focused on
the task at hand.”
She caught the bass on a Z-Man Bang
StickZ in black blue laminate on 8 lb. test
fluorocarbon line.
“All of the fish were holding between 5
and 30 feet deep,” she stated. “I used an
Abu Garcia Vengeance 7 foot spinning rod
/reel combo to catch the fish.”

There was a lot of boat traffic on Folsom
that weekend, more than she’s ever seen
there.
“At one point, I had my back to a big
wake that came towards us,
and when it hit our boat, I
toppled backwards onto the
hard plastic of the seat at
the rear of the boat,” said
Barawed. “It wasn’t until the
next day that I noticed bruises
up and down my leg and a
scrape in a location I won’t
post for public consumption.
I’ll just call those my bonus
souvenirs from a great day on
the water.”
“Two teams limited out on
Saturday, while zero teams
limited out on Sunday,” she
stated. “Thompson and I
caught a total of four fish, the most fish of
any team fishing Sunday.”
“I couldn’t be more grateful to my
partners Bill Hart and Matt Thompson
for keeping me motivated, laughing, and
humble,” Barawed concluded.
On Saturday, July 25, Mike Bugliarello
and Irvin Schnell took first place in the
event with their 8.04-pound bag. David
Schiavo’s 2.13 won the Big Fish award.
The Folsom Bass Team meets once a
month on the first Wednesday of each
month at 6:30 pm. The meeting is held
at the Round Table Pizza near the inter-
