Bass Bite is Best While Trout Remain Scattered

Chester - Lake Almanor received another ( much-needed ) dose of rain this weekend , every little bit helps . Lake level has begun dropping , the first time in months . Water temperature continues to hover around the sixty-degree mark and visibility ranges between 7-14 ’. We will start to see a warmup later this week with daytime highs reaching into the high eighties . The bite remains inconsistent for trollers as we wait for the weather and water temperatures to stabilize . Trout are scattered and I have heard reports of fish caught on the East Shore , West shore off Rocky Point , Rec I to the A-Frame and off Red Bank . I still have not seen any signs of the hex hatch on Almanor we are still a week or two away . Trollers need to pick your preferred presentation and cover ground , start at the popular haunts , and stay on fish when you find them . Bass fishermen continue to catch quality fish when weather / winds permit . Shore fishermen are targeting their efforts around Hamilton Branch . We are beginning to see fly fishermen along the west shore in the evening in search of hex activity . Butt Lake should see hatches beginning this week . You can expect traffic delays when traveling to Plumas County and please call ahead for lodging , dining , and camping reservations .

Trout and Bass Pace Catches

BURSON – While the trout planting season is now over at Lake Amador until the water temperature cools down in mid to late October , anglers are still catching a few

Golds from shore and boats . Tom Fiester caught a nice 4.32 lb . Gold off the dock and brought it up for a photo . He caught it on gold PowerBait down about 40 ’ deep at 10 am , according to the Lake Amador Resort . Bass are showing also in the catches . Big fish honors go to Jessica Arndt , who landed a 9 ½ lb . largemouth bass while fishing at Lake Amador . The resort planted a total of 33,200 pounds of trout in the lake from October 5 , 2021 to April 27 , 2022 . Those fish include a mixture of Cutbows , Amador Golds and

Rainbows . Catfish and bluegill fishing should be picking up . Fish mackerel , chicken liver and dough baits for the catfish and mealworms , redworms and small jigs for the bluegill .

Shad Reward Light Tackle Enthusiasts

SACRAMENTO – The Bureau of Reclamation increased water releases from Nimbus Dam into the American River from 1,750 cfs to 2,000 cfs on June 7 to maintain Delta salinity standards , reported T . Washburn of the Bureau of Reclamation . Anglers can find solid shad fishing at Howe Avenue , Watt Avenue , Gristmill , Harrington ’ s Access and other areas on the river . Most anglers are tossing out small plastic grubs in pink

and chartreuse on 1 / 32 oz . to 1 / 16 oz . jigheads . Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service has been shore fishing on the American River below Howe Avenue with his family . He has reported 7 to 15 shad per short evening venture while fishing chartreuse grubs on 1 / 16 ounce jigheads . On his latest trip , he , his daughter Milani and Charles landed 12 shad . Expect some stripers to follow the shad into the river . You can catch the stripers with big swimbaits , Pencil Poppers , live Sacramento pike minnows and other offerings .

Big , Husky Rainbows Reward Trollers

NAPA – Trollers continue to catch a mixture of rainbows , kings and kokanee at Lake Berryessa , with rainbows producing the most consistent action . “ This morning I had the honor , and the privilege to take out my brotherin-law Junior and my Nephew / Godson Christian ,” said Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service . “ To say that the fishing was EPIC would be a understatement , as we could ’ ve limited out at 8am with some DONKEYS in the mix , but we chose to catch and release for a bit and search some new water for future trips .” The trout caught that day ranged from 1-1 / 2 to 4 pounds and hit Needlefish , Speed Spoons and Rapalas from 15 to 60 feet deep . The surface water temperature was 75 degrees . “ Fishing was great but today was more about spending some time with my boy , my Godson , my Nephew . Danielle and I have been so lucky to have the opportunity to help raise this great young man , and today he graduates high school and in 2 weeks leaves for Dakota
