Trollers Battle Trout , Big Kokanee at Englebright

DOBBINS – While Englebright Reservoir is mainly known for its trout fishing , there is also a sleeper population of kokanee that lives in the lake . “ The kokanee aren ’ t numerous , but the ones that are being caught are really nice , 17 inches and over ,” said Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ Anglers are picking up the kokanee while trolling spinners and hoochies , tipped with white corn , behind dodgers .” “ Trout fishing at Englebright is good ,” he added . “ Boaters fishing worms behind dodgers are bagging rainbows in the 12 to 14 inch range .” Englebright is holding 67,915 acre feet of water , 97 percent of capacity and 102 percent of average . If you want to catch a limit of kokanee , Bullards Bar is the place to go . “ Boaters are picking up lots of kokanee averaging 12 inches while trolling hoochie and spinners in orange and pink in the main body off Garden Point ,” said Newton . “ The fish are showing at 35 feet and deeper .”

Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob ’ s Guide Service also reported topnotch kokanee fishing at Bullards Bar . “ Two anglers fishing with me caught 20 kokanee by 10 a . m ., as well as losing a bunch ,” said Reimers on June 1 . “ The fish were a mixture of fish in the 12 to 13 inch range and the 9 to 10 inch range . We trolled with Brad ’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs in hot pink , gold diver down and Lady Em colors behind Paulina Peak dodgers .” Bass enthusiasts have been catching and releasing lots of spotted bass , but the big fish are few and far between . Fishermen are experiencing the best fishing while using drop shot rigs , according to Newton . Bullards Bar Reservoir is holding 864,761 acre feet of water , 90 percent of capacity and 101 percent of average .

Boaters Bring In Trout Limits

BURSON – Trout plants are over until the water cools down in the fall at Lake Camanche , but the reservoir continues to yield “ easy limits ” of rainbow trout for experienced trollers . “ We caught limits of rainbows to 5-1 / 4 pounds on our latest two trips to Camanche ,” said Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine Guide Service . “ After launching at the North Shore , we trolled from the river channel to the dam with Speedy Shiners at 20 to 45 feet deep .”
