Trout Opener Excellent in spite of wind

Eagle Lake opened Sat , May 29 and the wind blew hard . Most anglers went fishing anyway and most got their fish . I had a last minute cancellation and did not hit the water until Sunday and got my taste of the windy conditions .

The fish were scattered . We started at Eagles Nest on the east shoreline trolling orange Jay fair flies from the surface down to 15 feet on the downriggers . We found the bite to be slow in this area . I got a call from a buddy who said there were plenty of willing fish right off Ronald McDonalds just a mile or so south of us . Our scope lit up with fish when we arrived and we put our limit of six fish in the box within a couple of hours and headed in to get out of the wind . Hot baits were orange flies and pumpkinseed grubs trolled from 8 to 12 feet deep . The fish we kept were all 2 1 / 2 pound beauties . Over the next three days the pattern was that there was no pattern . The fish seem to be moving around in schools and are not staying in one area . Going back to

The Lake Davis Spring Fishing Derby is set for June 18 , 2022 . Trophies , cash prizes and next year ’ s entry will be awarded for three categories : adults , juniors under 18 , and “ dad and me .” All proceeds will benefit the Eastern Plumas Rural Fire Protection District . Trout and Kokanee Bite Sizzles

LA GRANGE - Boaters are landing limits of rainbow trout and kokanee salmon at Don Pedro Lake . On his latest venture to the lake , Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing reported tough king salmon fishing , but excellent kokanee and salmon action . Trollers are catching the trout and kokanee while using Pro-Troll ’ s Kokanee Killers behind Mack ’ s or Vance ’ s Sling Blades at a variety of depths . “ We had another solid day today ,” said Smith . “ We started out looking just for kings for a couple hours and only had a few very soft strikes for nothing . We switched over to lokanee and it wasn ’ t long and they had two limits of lokanee .
