season closure from Point Arena to Pigeon Point from June 1 to June 22 . “ As the saying goes , every day truly is different .,” said Wallace Klughers of the Queen of Hearts . “ We experienced wide open fishing on Friday , June 17 . We couldn ’ t even keep the lines in the water . Our group of 13 got their full limits of 26 king salmon to 22 pounds .” On a previous trip , Klughers reported , “ All it took was a day of a strong north west wind to stir the ocean back up . It was wide-open action for us today . Our group of 11 caught 22 king salmon .” Rockfish action has also been excellent out of Half Moon Bay . For example , the 8 anglers aboard the Queen of Hearts landed 79 rockfish , 2 lingcod and 1 cabezon on June 16 . “ Our local rockfishing has been very productive for us . We have caught limits of rockfish on all of our trips so far . The fish consist mainly of quality bottom dwellers with a few school fish in the mix . We
also been seeing a few lings and cabazon come aboard .,” reported Klughers . Information : ( 650 ) 728-3377 . Michael Cabanas of New Captain Pete Sportfishing confirmed the excellent salmon action below Pigeon Point . “” We ’ re coming in early with 24 limits of salmon after fishing below Pigeon Point ,” said Cabanas on Saturday , June 18 . “ The fish are showing at all depths , from 15 to 60 pulls . MONTEREY BAY
Trollers and Moochers Score Big Chinooks on Bay
SANTA CRUZ –. The salmon bite has heated up for both trollers and moochers on Monterey Bay . “ The salmon bite picked up today on the west side of the Soquel Hole ,” said Todd Fraser of Bayside Marine . “ There were a few boats who caught their limits in 200-250 feet of water .”
“ The majority of the action was on Krippled Anchovies down 100- 150 feet . The anglers fishing near Soldiers Club reported limits in the morning . The salmon are back in the bay and in the 10-30 pound range ,” Fraser noted . Fraser said the halibut fishing is still good near Capitola and New Brighton . The anglers are drifting squid and herring . “ There have been some solid scores of halibut and white seabass near the kelp edge . The anglers are using Big Hammers and Candy Bars to catch the sea bass and halibut ,” he explained . “ The rock fishing was slower due to the cooling water from the wind . There is no swell but there is wind in the afternoon ,” Fraser added . Information ( 831 ) 475- . 2173 . Moochers are also picking up good numbers of king salmon on Monterey Bay , according to Chris Arcoleo of Chris / d Fishing Trips . The 20 anglers aboard the Checkmate bagged 27 salmon while mooching on Friday , June 17 . On the previous day , the 15 anglers aboard the Checkmate landed 23
salmon to 30 pounds . “ The fish are averaging between 15 and 30 pounds ,” said Arcoleo . “ Every day it ’ s big , big fish . The fish are being caught throughout the bay , but we ’ re catching our fish off the Soldier ’ s Club . You can ’ t believe how many fish are lost when they ’ re this big . We ’ re hooking 3 to 4 salmon at a time at 40 to 50 feet down .” The rockfish action has also been very good , with most trips lately staying local because of the wind . “ We ’ ve been getting limits of mosty blue and yellowtail rockfish while fishing off Carmel , Point Joe and Cypress Point ,” stated Arcoleo . The 19 anglers aboard the latest trip aboard the Caroline ended up with limits of rockfish ( 190 ), according to Arcoleo . Information : ( 408 ) 375-5951 .
