for adult Chinook salmon within the stretch of river per CDFW ’ s 2022- 2023 California Supplemental Sport Fishing Regulations ( PDF )( opens in new tab ). Recreational anglers will be able to harvest two Chinook salmon , but no more than one adult greater than 23 inches per day in this reach . The possession limit is six Chinook salmon with no more than three adults . Reopening this stretch of the Klamath River is designed to allow anglers to catch surplus hatchery Chinook salmon now that the number of adults needed for spawning has been achieved at the hatchery . The only other sector of the Klamath-Trinity rivers that remain open for adult Chinook salmon harvest is the lower Trinity River from the Denny Road bridge at Hawkins Bar downstream to the confluence with the Klamath River . The take of jack Chinook salmon less than or equal to 23 inches is allowed in all areas of the Klamath Basin with the exception of the mouth of the Klamath River , which is closed for the remainder of the year . The daily bag limit for jack Chinook salmon in these areas is two fish per day and no more than six in possession . Anglers can monitor the quota status of open and closed sections of the Klamath and Trinity rivers by calling CDFW ’ s information hotline at ( 800 ) 564-6479 . 15 Lb . Striper Tops Catches As Trout Plants Continue

BYRON – The South Cove and the pier near the marina are the places to target both trout and stripers , now that Mt . Lassen trout plants are in full swing at Los Vaqueros Reservoir . Just ask Victor , who caught a 15 lb . striper while fishing anchovies in the South Cove . Or go ask Michael , Perez , who landed an 11.5-pound rainbow while fishing in the South Cove of Los Vaqueros Reservoir . The most recent trout plants at the lake were on Nov . 30 , when 1,000 pounds of Mount Lassen rainbows were planted ., along with 2,500 pounds of CDFW trout on Dec . 1 . The lake also received 2,500 pounds of CDFW trout on Nov . 15 , 1,000 pounds of Mt Lassen trout on Nov . 15 , 2,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen fish on Nov . 2 and 2,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbows on Oct . 13 . That ’ s a total of 11,000 pounds of trout planted in the reservoir since Oct . 13 .

Shore anglers targeting trout are experiencing the most success using garlic scented Powerbait followed by night crawlers . Trolling with spoons , minnow imitation lures and nightcrawlers behind flashers s doing fairly well , especially in the backs of coves . Bank anglers and rental boaters continue to hook both keeper and shaker striped bass while fishing cut anchovies or threadfin shad . The South Cove , Cowboy Cove and Howden Cove are among the top spots for stripers . . Stripers need to be 18 inches or more to be legal . Please release the small fish as quickly and carefully as possible , since they are the future of our striped bass fishery . The surface water temperature is currently 61 degrees . The water level is currently at 76,000-acre feet . The water clarity has been
