Few anglers are fishing at Englebright Reservoir for trout . Anglers should troll with Rapalas , Needlefish , Cripplures and nightcrawlers behind dodgers for the scrappy rainbows . Englebright is holding 72,434- acre feet of water , 103 percent of capacity and 109 percent of average .

BERRYESSA LAKE

Bass Bite Is On Upswing

SACRAMENTO – Black bass fishing is shifting into high gear at Lake Berryessa with the arrival of warm , balmy weather . “ Berryessa bass are starting to come out and play ,” reported Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ Smallmouth bass have been a nice change , as they are moving up to spawn and the spotted bass are right there with them . Largemouth bass are feeding on big shad and moving into the shallows to spawn . Lake temperatures are moving up from 58 degrees in the morning to 64 degrees in the late afternoon , but the water below that is still very cold ..” On a recent trip by Paganelli , Robert Parks of Vacaville caught and released 10 smallmouth bass to 3 pounds , The angler , who had never caught a smallmouth before , fished 3.5 inch Keitech swimbaits in the top 10 feet of water In the Narrows . On the next trip ,, Jerry and his son Ken from Visalia caught and released 10 smallmouth bass and two largemouths to 4 pounds . The fish averaged 2-1 / 2 to 3 pounds each . They also fished with Keitech swimbaits in the top 10 feet of water in the Narrows . Few anglers have been trying for rainbow trout , kokanee salmon and king salmon lately , but the bite should pick for trolliers using an array of lures soon . As the lake ’ s thermocline forms , fishermen can target the fish in deeper water with downriggers . Lake Berryessa is holding 1,384,072 acre feet of water , 86 percent of capacity and 102 percent of average .

Trollers Battle Husky Rainbows

BURSON - Anglers trolling at Lake Camanche continue to report top-notch rainbow trout action . “ Today I had Todd and Vinnie out on Lake Camanche for some fantastic Mt . Lassen rainbow trout fishing and these guys flat out killed it ,” said Nate Kelsch at Big Nate ’ s Guide Service after his latest trolling adventure . “ For the first time this year , I had a group go a perfect 10 for 10 by 1 pm and they landed some absolute donkeys . All these fish were thick , beautiful fish that cut awesome as well .” “ The water was 3 degrees warmer in the morning than yesterday , so I opted to start deep and it paid off .
