Fly Fisherman And Trollers Bag Limits of Trout

Eagle Lake - We are limiting daily at Eagle Lake . Some days we fly fish ( nymph ) all day other days we start off trolling then switch over to fly fishing . We are trolling the west side from Wildcat Pt to Shrimp Island using the Jay Fair Trolling Fly Method in shallow water early . Orange is the best trolling fly color . Later in the morning we are moving to deeper water and trolling our baits at 12-25 feet deep on the down riggers . A Red / gold Thomas Boyant spoon has been our best producer for Deep trolling . For fly fishing , we are anchoring on rock piles in 6-8 feet of water and nymphing orange and black flies a foot off the bottom under an indicator . The fish we are keeping are loaded with shrimp with bright orange flesh . The nymphing bite should last a few more weeks , until the water warms too much for the trout to feed actively in shallow water . White Pines Lake Kicks Out Rainbows

ARNOLD - The only lake accessible to anglers at this time in the Highway 4 corridor is White Pines Lake near Arnold , due to this year ’ s heavy Sierra Nevada snowpack . “ Fiy fishers are catching and releasing lots of rainbows while fishing Parachute Adams and mayfly patterns in the evenings ,” said Bill Reynolds of Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods in Arnold . “ Bank anglers using PowerBait are also catching trout , but not with the same regularity as the fly casters .” “ The North Fork of the Stanislaus River is running higher than normal due to snow melt and can be very dangerous ,” noted Reynolds . “ Big Trees State Park is now open for camping and the road is open to the river and Beaver Creek .” “ The road to Spicer Reservoir has not been plowed and opened ,” he added . “ They were due to start plowing on May 30 . They were expected to assess the road this past week and make a decision as to when they would begin the clearing process . We still have not heard when they will start .” Lake Alpine still has snow and ice , but it is slowly breaking up and is 80 percent ice at this time . SACRAMENTO – Bass fishing enthusiasts are catching decent numbers of smallmouth , spotted and largemouth bass on Folsom Lake , while trollers are hooking some rainbow trout but very few king salmon .

“ The fish are in post-spawn mode ,” reported Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ They are folding close to flooded structure like willows and rockpiles . They are feeding on pond smelt and shad at 10 to 25 feet deep .” On his latest trip on the lake , 8-year-old -Brahm and his 10-year-old brother Zan caught and released 3 to 4 fish each , a mixture of largemouth , spotted and smallmouth bass to 2 pounds , while using plastics on drop shot rigs . “ One angler on the lake was fishing a floating fly , but the rest of the anglers I saw were using drop shot shots and throwing plastics ,”

Paganelli noted . King salmon fishing is very tough on Folsom Lake , with very few fish reported over the past few weeks . The trout fishing is by no means hot , but is better than the salmon action . “ I gave Folsom a try for a few hours this morning .” reported Kevin Fogel on the Folsom Lake Fishing Reports Facebook Page after his most recent trip to the reservoir . “ I was out doing some bait head testing . The conditions were perfect , with southeast winds of 4 to 10 mph and a surface water temperature of 64 to 67 degrees .” “ I set one rigger at 66 ft and the other at 88 ft and adjusted
