Channel Catfish Offer Top Sport

OREGON HOUSE – Not much has changed at Collins Lake over the past few weeks . The lake is 20 feet from full and the surface water temperature is 79.7 degrees . Channel catfish still offer the top fishing , while the trout are holding down below 30 feet and bass have spread throughout the lake after a great spawn . The biggest fish caught recently were catfish . Garren Foster of Ukiah landed a 22 pound channel cat from the shore , while Abby McMinn bagged an 8.5 pound cat while fishing with a drop shot rig . There were a few trout caught recently , including Jesse and Jessica , who caught both a lightning trout and a rainbow trout using orange Powerbait ; Casey & Morgan , who landed two trout ; Ty Buck , who reeled in in yet two more on green Powerbait ; and Nick Collins Wright with Kamea , who caught a single trout while trolling a Needlefish : Finally , quite a few people reported good bass activity all over the lake . Trollers Do Best On Rainbows , Browns

PORTOLA – Trolling is that top method for catching rainbow and German brown trout at Davis Lake at this time .

“ I ’ d rate the trolling about a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 ,” said Jim Graham at J & J ’ s Grizzly Store and Camping Resort . “ Anglers are doing best while trolling with Baby Simon lures in orange and red at 20 to 25 feet deep around the big island . The fish average 18 to 20 inches long . For example , Lucinda Galindo- Witte caught a 3 lb . brown on top of the water while trolling a worm and a flasher around island off of Honker Cove boat ramp . Another couple of anglers trolling Baby Simon lures for four hours landed limits of quality trout . “ Bank fishing for trout gets a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 ,” noted Graham . “ Bank fishermen are doing best on trout while using worms and Power Bait , at Camp Five , Fairview , Eagle Point and Mallard . The fishing was a little slow , but it ’ s improving now .”

David Hammond , Delta Pro Fishing , took his family out on the delta and had an epic day putting limits of striped bass on the boat .

Black bass fishing is about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 , with many of the bass holding in deeper water , noted Graham . Plastic frogs , crankbaits and plastic worms are all working . If you want to hook brown bullhead catfish , Graham recommended fishing stink baits and nightcrawlers in Catfish Cove . Most of the fish weigh 1 to 2 pounds . Lake Davis is holding 72,684 acre feet of water , 88 percent of capacity and 130 percent of average .
