Trollers Lay Into Rainbows , Browns

PORTOLA – Trollers are picking up quality rainbow trout , along with some browns , as the water temperature cools down with the cooler fall weather . Ed Dillard of Dillard ’ s Guided Fishing found solid trout fishing at Lake Davis on September 26 and 27 . “ We landed 12 fish the first day and 21 on the next ,” said Dillard . “ We used the orange Baby Simons and Jay Fair best all-around flies down at 7 to 18 feet .. The fish ran from 12 to 20 inches long .” Bank anglers are doing “ OK ” on trout at Mallard and Camp Five while using PowerBait and worms , reported Jeanne Graham at J & J ’ s Grizzly Store & Camping Resort . The fish are averaging around 19 inches . “ Black bass are hitting best now at Camp five , Eagle Point and the northern end of the lake .,” said Graham . “ Shore anglers are catching the fish on soft plastics , Rooster Tails and Rat-L-Traps . Many of the fish are in 3 to 4 pound range .,” said Graham . Anglers are hooking brown bullhead catfish while fishing for bass and trout . The fish weigh 1 to 2 pounds . Lake Davis is holding 70,617 acre feet of water , 85 percent of capacity and 132 percent of average .

Smallmouth Bass Offer Top Autumn Action

LIVERMORE – Lake Del Valle smallmouth action remains “ very good ,” reported Chuck Wolf for the East Bay Regional Parks District : “ Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz continued their quest to catch some good-sized smallmouth bass and trolled Lake Del Valle on their most recent trip , using Panther Martin , Mepps Aglia , and Joe ’ s Flies Spinners . They trolled in a range of 18 to 30 feet below the surface in 25-to- 45-foot water columns and applied scent to all the lures , and caught 10 fish , including eight smallmouths , one bluegill , and one largemouth bass ,” wrote Wolf . “ The smallies were very scattered this week and hard to track down . They were caught in various sections of the lake , often in the flats . All were released in excellent condition . The water clarity is very good in the northern half of the lake , with a surface temperature of 72-74 degrees . There are no water quality advisories ,” Wolf stated . Del Valle Regional Park is open with limited amenities :

• Bring your own drinking water . Water at the park may be intermittent .

• The Marina Store is open daily with modified hours for boat rentals , first come first served , rentals for motorboats , patio boats and canoes can be purchased between 8am and 3pm ; boats must be returned by 5 pm . The store is open between 8 am – 6 pm to purchase bait , tackle , license sales , and snacks and drinks .

• The Camp Store is open Fridays from 1 pm to 9 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 9 pm .

• Use caution on storm-damaged trails . Signs are posted .

• Construction equipment / noise may be present during normal working hours . The following amenities remain closed :

• The Visitor Center is currently closed .

• The Swim Beach Food Concession remains closed until further notice .

Rainbows and Kings Reward Boaters

IONE- - Trollers at Don Pedro Lake are bagging quality rainbow trout and king salmon while trolling spoons in deep water . Mike Abourezk of Farmington and Chris Sanders of Stockton had a great day while fishing with Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing on September 26 . “ We caught some nice fish , with the biggest rainbow going four pounds , two ounces rainbow and one king salmon weighing 3 pounds ,” stated Smith . “ They kept seven fish , let one go and lost five on a beautiful day with absolutely no other boats on the lake .“ “ We even caught a kokanee , a next year ’ s fish measuring 10 inches , that we let go ,” said Smith . “ This is the best time to be fishing these reservoirs for some great-fighting fish .” They trolled 1 inch Ex-Cel spoons in shad colors at 60 to 75 feet . “ We were marking fish at 85 to 100 , but they didn ’ t want to bite ,” said Smith . “ The fish are gorging themselves on bait now . I am looking for big bait balls in open water on the main body . When we fish the bait , the trout
