Big Catfish Tops Early Fall Catches

BURSON – The angling scene has been quiet lately at Lake Camanche lately , but the few anglers getting out are catching rainbow trout while trolling deep . You can expect things to change after the surface water temperature cools down and rainbow trout plants begin later this autumn . Both shore anglers and boat fishermen will be able to target the trout as they move closer to shore . The catfish action has also been decent for the few anglers trying . One local woman topped the September catches by landing an 11.93 lb . channel catfish while fishing near the South Shore launch , according to the Lake Camanche Recreation Company . Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service reported top-notch fishing at Camanche with early limits of trout for 2 anglers during his most recent trip . “ Today I had Ralph and Rene out for a Lassen Rainbow Trout trip on Lake Camanche and these 2 crushed it ,” stated Kelsch . “ After an alarm clock mishap by someone ( not going to say any names , we got our lines all in by 7:15 and proceeded to hookup right away . “ We landed a couple . lost some and had some hit but no sticks , then the bite died completely ,” he recalled . “ We had a couple of hours of nothing then the bite started to come alive , a few more takedowns that popped off then we started putting some very nice fish on ice .” “ These fish were fighting like crazy , which made things a lot of fun . We even had a nice bass choke on a spoon , so it had to go home with them as well . We fished from 35 to 60 ft . with a variety of Optimizers and Speedy Shiners at speeds from 3 to 3.5 mph .” Lake Camanche is holding 352,020 acre feet of water , 84 percent of capacity and 137 percent of average .

COLLINS LAKE

Fall Plants Begin In October

OREGON – On the week of October 16 to October 20 , Collins Lake will be planted with 2,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen trout , including 500 pounds of lightning trout and 1500 pounds of rainbow trout , according to Sara at the Collins Lake Resort . Expect the shore fishing and trolling for trout to pick up after the water cools and the trout plants begin . Trout fishing has been tough lately , with the best action going to trollers . One angler , Sean , caught four trout on one trip and two more on his next fishing adventure while trolling with Speedy Shiners . Catfish have been providing the
