The lake was just about to turn over with a 51 degree surface temperature . The best lures were a 3 inch swimbait and a ned jig slowly dragged on or near bottom ,” he explained . The Bidwell Canyon , Spillway , Loafer Creek , Lime Saddle and Enterprise boat ramps are all open to launching , according to the Lake Oroville State Recreation Area . The Foreman Creek , Nelson Bar and Stringtown car top ramps are also open to boat launching . Lake Oroville is holding 2,417,265 acre feet of water , 68 percent of capacity and 129 percent of average .

Trout Plants Boost Fishing Success

LIVERMORE – The trout planting season has begun at Los Vaqueros

Ernie Marlan is learning how to crappie fish on Lopez Lake and has found that the lake is a great crappie fishery . Small soft plastics and small spoons have been doing the trick .

Reservoir with a plant of 2,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbow trout on Tuesday , October 24 . Anglers are now catching rainbows from shore and boat . Just ask Patricio Parra of San Jose , who caught a 9 lb . trout on the day of the plant while bait fishing from shore . Another angler weighed in a five fish limit of trout the following day while bait fishing from shore in the South Cove . Shore anglers can expect to experience the most success using garlic scented PowerBait and night crawlers in the South Cove and off the pier near the marina . Trolling with spoons and minnow imitation lures from a rental boat in the backs of coves is also worth a try . On October 28 , the Saturday after the trout plant , the lake hosted a C . A . S . T . for Kids event designed to provide children with disabilities , ages 7 – 17 , the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing . Anglers targeting channel cats are fishing chicken livers in the South Cove and elsewhere on the lake . The catfish being caught average 2 to 5 pounds , but bigger fish are out there swimming in the lake . Successful catfish anglers include Andy Lin , Kobe Nguyen , Mike Nguyen , and Jonathon Giang from San Jose , who caught a total of 8 hefty channel cats on a recent venture to the reservoir . They fished with chicken liver on the south side of the lake in a rental boat . Bank anglers continue to hook striped bass while tossing out anchovies in the South Cove and off the fishing pier and south cove . The keeper fish average 18 to 21 inches long . Patience Needed When Targeting Winter Cutthroat

RENO - Pyramid Lake has turned over and finally stabilized . Two to five pound aggressive pilot peak cutthroat are all over the place and easily catchable . Shore fishing is really starting to pick up with the fish moving in to the shallows . Shore guys are finding good numbers throwing Maribou jigs in white and white and green as well white and blue combos . Spoons have been producing for shore and boat guys . For trolling , Apex lures in 4.5 ” are the top producing followed by spoons and large size 20 Panther Martin spinners . Most fish are coming in the top 30 ’ of water working the 40 ’ -80 ’ depth contour . Most trolling fish are coming off side planners and the rest off long lines at 150 ’ - 200 ’ out at speeds from 2.8-3.2mph . The best concentration of bait has been offshore in front of
