Earlybird NTAC Sign-Ups Are Entered To Win A NEW KAYAK !

We are pleased to announce that in celebration of the NorCal Trout Angler ’ s Challenge 10th Anniversary season opener - coming to San Pablo Dam on Saturday , Feb 3rd , that ALL “ early entries ” received BY January 28th , will be entered into a drawing for a new 10 › Pelican Sabre 100XP Kayak , valued at $ 300 ! This 10th season opener is sure to be a blast , with an incredible rainbow trout bite predicted , as the lake has been closed to the public since last November . But even while it has been in a “ closed ” state , the lake is still being aggressively stocked , and that stocking program will continue over these next few weeks leading up to the event ! So come on out and join the fun , because even if you don ’ t catch a fish ( almost impossible ), you may still come home with a new kayak for your efforts !
Remember ... kids ALWAYS fish free and win trophies and prizes ... so bring the family ! See you there ! You can register for this NorCal Trout Angler ’ s Challenge event simply by clicking on the following link : https :// anglerspress . com / events / norcal-troutanglers-challenge . html

PYRAMID LAKE
Popcorn beach and even better bait in Wizard Bay . You just need to put the time in to get through the little guys to find quality fish . Our biggest this week was Randy Berquist ’ s 17.1lb Lahontan that came off Spider Point on a pearl green Apex 15 feet deep at 2.8 mph . Expect February and March to be the best months for large fish and April to be the time to have some of those crazy high-numbers days that you hear about . For flyfishermen looking to get out over the next couple of weeks , here ’ s the latest on conditions : Currently , there isn ’ t any clear pattern in terms of finding the best area to fish or a clear bite window when the fish are more active . There has been a slightly better bite in the mid-morning hours , say from 8-11 , but the fish have still been caught throughout the day .
The fish continue to be pretty spread out . The key when choosing a spot for the day is to choose it based on the methods you are looking to use . Typically , our decisions are based on the time of the year , and the wind levels / direction . This time of year , the fish will most often be found hanging out along shelves , drop offs or transitions for shallow to deep water . Focus on areas that have a good sandy drop off , or any rocks that offer a quick depth change During the fall and winter months , the fish in Pyramid Lake will often come out from the deep water and cruise this type of structure in search of food before moving back out to deep water .
Fish have been caught at a lot of different depths lately , from all the way at the surface down to 20 feet . Flyfishermen have been setting their indicators at around 8-9 feet to start , playing around with depths throughout the day , and often going shallower in the mornings / evenings and deeper mid-day . The name of the game when fishing out here right now is patience . Currently , this is not a numbers game . Be ready
