AMERICAN RIVER
return to spawn in a few years ,” the hatchery stated . “ For the next few months while the raceways near the parking lot are empty , you can walk downstream just past the Visitor Center to the American River Trout Hatchery raceways to view and feed young trout ,” the hatchery added . “ Steelhead fishing is fair ,” reported https :// www . californiaflyfishingreports . com . “ Flows have come up to the point that wading is very tough and perhaps dangerous . Wading the river ’ s channels may be a little easier plus the slower water might act as a refuge for the fish . Most of the steelhead are going to be between Riverbend Park and the Sailor Bar area has the heaviest concentrations of adult steelhead . “ “ Noticed that the island at Watt Ave . is covered . We stopped by the island just downstream from the Sailor Bar boat ramp during my clinic last week and observed several fly fishermen in the usual spot in the flat water upstream from the channel . We didn ’ t see any hook-ups however ( we were only there for about a half hour ) but we saw several fish either rolling or jumping . Most fish are being taken on egg patterns and caddis larva patterns .”

BULLARDS BAR / ENGLEBRIGHT LAKES
Kokanee Anglers Troll For Limits
DOBBINS – Kokanee fishing remains good at Bullards Bar for the few anglers going out between winter storms . Trollers have been catching 10 fish limits of kokanee salmon while trolling with Kokanee Cut Plugs and spinners behind dodgers at 50 to 65 feet deep . Expect to hook kokanee in the 10 to 13 inch range .
Bullards Bar is holding 759,988 acre-feet of water , 79 percent of capacity and 115 percent of average . Few anglers have been on the water at Englebright Reservoir fishing for trout . However , this is generally a great time of year to hook rainbows and an occasional brown while trolling with Rapalas , Needlefish , Cripplures and nightcrawlers behind dodgers . Expect to hook holdover rainbows in the 12 to 18 inch range . Englebright is holding 66,901 acre feet of water , 96 percent of capacity and 101 percent of average .

CAMANCHE LAKE
Trout and Huge Crappie Lead Late Winter Angling Parade
BURSON - Boaters and shore anglers are bagging lots of trout , along with an occasional monster crappie , at Lake Camanche on the Mokelumne River as weekly trout plants continue . “ We had Brandon and Josephs out on Lake Camanche for a tutorial trip and landed some donkeys ,” reported Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service . “ I haven ’ t seen that many boats on the lake in a long time and it definitely made me change the game plan . I love trips like today , when my clients are eager to learn , hands on , and ask a lot of questions .” “ It seems that every time we ’ d start talking about techniques a rod would go off , at times 2 rods . These guys did great and ended up with not only new personal best trout but am absolute donkey crappie as a nice added bonus , and our streak of having at least 1 fish over 5 lbs . continues ,” said Kelsch . “ The key to success today was to try to stay away from all the boats , though it was a very tough task ,” he revealed . “ Whenever we could get our own water it was game on . If you ’ re ready to get out and learn some new tricks to up your scores or just relax and have some fun on the water , I ’ ve got you covered .”
