Trout Are Still Biting As Plants End Until Fall

IONE - The Lake Amador Resort released 500lbs of Golds and Rainbows at the Blue dock on May 24 during their last plant of the spring on the lake . “ Most of these trout averaged 1-1.5 lbs ., so there should be lots out there for the kids to catch ,” reported Lee Lockhart at the Lake Amador Resort . “ This will be our last plant until this coming October , but with a full lake and cooler nights , expect to keep seeing trout being caught into July especially at night off the Blue dock .” The lake level is 1 ’ from full , the surface water temperature is 75 degrees , the clarity is 8 ’ and the oxygen level is 8.6 mg / L . Big fish honors go to Edward Garcia from Santa Clara , who landed a huge Cutbow weighing 13.5 lbs . from campsite 124 on the Dry Camp point in May .

Fly Fishers Battle American Shad

SACRAMENTO -- Shad fishing has shifted into high gear on the American River as water releases below Nimbus Dam continue at 3,000 cfs . “ We ’ ve been checking out the Gristmill access daily and noted that there are very few fishermen either at Gristmill or across the river at Harrington ,” according to https :// www . californiaflyfishingreports . com / lower-american-river . “ However , guide Capt . Andy Guibord ( 916-849-1529 ) reports that there are lots of shad in the upper Sunrise area , though he said it ’ s pretty crowded with fishermen . He also said there were good numbers of fish on up to Sailor Bar .” “ I had other reports that there were fish down as far as the Rossmoor access . On Saturday , we ran into my friend guide Andrew Foster ( 279-900-4138 ) with a client . He rowed over to shore and informed us that they had about twenty shad so far . He said they came across some large schools . Lastly , Andy reported that striper fishing has slowed down ,” the report concluded .

SACRAMENTO – You can take your pick of targeting rainbow and king salmon or fishing for three species of black bass on Berryessa at this time . “ I fished Lake Berryessa on Saturday with one client and found some of the most amazing top water bite we have had for a long time .,” said Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ We caught and released smallmouth up to 4 pounds and largemouth up to 5 pounds . It ’ s definitely a day to remember - and one that we hope to keep happening .” They used poppers , ripbaits and drop shot rigs also to hook the fish .
