Quality sized stripers are being caught by anglers fishing the SF Bay . Live anchovies are the bait of choice but some anglers are using swimbaits and spoons .

Anglers Bag Big Lingcod and Rockfish

BODEGA BAY – Anglers are experiencing fantastic fishing for rockfish and lingcod while fishing out of Bodega Bay . Rick Powers , Captain of the New Sea Angler , reported “ red hot fishing ” for rockfish and big lingcod . In fact , he said , “ it is about as good as it gets .” On a recent trip , he reported full limits of rockfish for 14 anglers and 9 lingcod to 16 pounds . On the very next day he also produced limits of rockfish for his 18 anglers . That ’ s a total of 180 rockfish ! He also reported have 6 solid lingcod to 14 pounds . to fill their fish bags of rockfish and lingcod . The most productive have been shrimp flies , bars and swimbaits . Remember , the groundfish season is 20 fathoms or less inshore fishery from May 1 to September 30th .

HALF MOON BAY

Bank Anglers and Boaters Catching A Mixed Bag

EL GRANADA – Shore anglers and boaters are catching sharks , stripers , halibut , rockfish and lingcod . “ Anglers are catching limits of rockfish every trip out ,” reported Sherry Ingles , owner of the Half Moon Bay Sportfishing . She went on to say , “ shrimp flies tipped with squid and plastics are catching both rock and lingcod up to 18 pounds .”

Ingles also said , “ there is a lot of bait around . The sardines were around then the anchovies moved in and now there is signs of squid as well . With all the bait around shore anglers are targeting stripers that are chasing bait . They have been using Hair Raisers , Mickey Jigs , ST

Minnows and Lucky Craft lures .” Leopard sharks are being caught between the launch ramp and the breakwater while using squid and other cutbaits .

There are plenty of anchovies in the SF Bay and huge schools of striped bass in the area as well . Striped bass fishing has been phenomenal for the last couple of months on the bay .
