FRESHWATER REPORTS
LAKE ALMANOR
Trollers Landing Good Mix of Browns and Bows
IONE - The heat wave has been replaced by a smoke wave from the Park Fire still burning to the west of the lake . A huge shout out and thank you to all those firefighters battling this fire . Smoke settling into the lake has sent AQI numbers soaring to over 400 at times while a slight breeze in the right direction can clear it out , as seen in the picture . Hwy 32 and Hwy 36 west of the Almanor basin , both popular routes to the lake , are currently closed because of the fire . The lake level is now standing at 4491.10 Water temperatures are running in the low to mid 70 ’ s depending on time of day and location . While trout along with the other fish are focused can make a living on the aquatic bug hatches that continue to happen , a large number have chosen to turn their attention to the pond smelt population as their main food source . Popular bites this week were found at various areas on the east shore including Big Springs , as well the east side of the peninsula . Slow trolled worms and plastics are the preferred baits that were hooking a mix of good quality

browns , bows and a few salmon from 30 to 40 feet . Fast hardware like speedy shiners in bait fish patterns also scored fish in the 35 to 45 foot range . Bait soakers have been getting a few fish in a variety of areas including Rocky Point , Dorado and the A frame . Catch and release continues to be difficult with the elevated water temps . A quick release with plenty of time for revival is key . Remember to fish responsibly . The tributaries to Almanor are at normal seasonal flows . Drifting bait or throwing hardware like kastmasters or spinners have been connecting with mostly small to medium trout at Hamilton Branch .

AMERICAN RIVER
Anglers Enjoy Good Action Of Steelhead and Stripers
SACRAMENTO - The steelhead fishing on the American River is pretty good with anglers landing fish in the 2-4lb class . Kailyr Perry , of Kaily ’ s Guide Service , has been landing 2-6 fish on most trips . He says , “ backbouncing Mag Lips or drifting nightcrawlers under a bobber are both productive ways to catch fish .” The striper bite is wide open on the American River , according to Perry . Anglers are tossing jerk baits , paddle tail swimbaits and using live bait to hammer the stripers . The glide bait bite is also picking up . Sneaky Peet ’ s , Baitsanity Explorer , and other 6-8in glide baits are great options . Salmon fishing remains closed on the American River .
