Trophy Trout and Landlocked Kings Provide Good Action For Trollers

OROVILLE – Brett Brady , Barebones Guide Service , said “ we are still catching a few salmon but we have been catching some really big trout .” Brett has been fishing the main lake and most of his big fish are being caught in the 50-90 ’ depth range . Brady said , “ we have caught fish as big 8 pounds and better with the average being in the 5lb class .” Richard Kowski reported that he is catching both trophy trout and king salmon . However , many of the kings are one to two years old so he prefers to let those grow and target

trophy trout . On a recent trip , Kowski said , “ we went 8 for 12 , kept four fish and released 3 kings and a rainbow .” Kowski also said , “ the fish are eating pond smelt and it is important to match the hatch .” Kowski ’ s bait presentation varies a little when targeting trophy trout and king salmon . When chasing trout , he uses a Topcoat Flasher in Kowski Special color teamed up with a white hoochie with a threaded nightcrawler . He uses the same flasher and hoochie but replaces the nightcrawler with an anchovy when targeting salmon .
