FRESHWATER REPORTS

AMERICAN RIVER
Steelhead Best Bet On The American
Kailyr Perry , of Kaily ’ s Guide Service , says “ anglers are catching some steelhead and he expects the bite to continue for about another month since the water flows are dropping and that will hurt the bite .” According to Perry , “ the steelhead have been averaging 2-4 pounds with the big fish weighing in about 8-10 pounds .” Drifiing worms and backtrolling plugs have been the ticket for boat anglers and bank anglers have had some success casting spoons and spinners . Perry also said , “ anglers are still catching striped bass while using jerkbaits , paddle tails and glide baits but most of the fish have scattered and have moved down to the lower American River and will eventually make their way to the delta .” Steelhead and striper anglers are seeing some salmon in the American River . Some have even reported seeing some Chum salmon , which is rare . Hopefully the numbers of salmon entering the system continue to increase over the next couple of months .
