Bank Anglers And Boaters Find Quality Steelhead

SACRAMENTO – The American River is at 1780cfs and hovering warm at 63 degress . The steelhead are in full spawn and the salmon are starting to trickle in . Plugs , spoons , and spinners in flashy colors have been great baits for boaters targeting steelhead . Kailyr Perry , of Kaily ’ s Guide Service , has been landing 5-10 fish on most trips with most fish ranging in the 2-8lb range . Bank anglers have been having some success while working deeper pools with slinky weights and worms . Once the salmon are on their beds , drifting eggs will become the bait of choice for steelhead .

a lot of other Norcal lakes , we really need a change in the weather . A fall storm would be ideal , but short of that , some cooler weather would help a lot . I ’ d like to see the surface temperatures drop down to 60 or lower . Colder water will break up the bait schools and bring the trout to the surface for their pre-winter-feeding binge . When it finally happens , I think we ’ re in for some epic action at Almanor and across the Sierra ,” Kellogg concluded .

Trollers Cover More Water To Find Fish

SACRAMENTO – The striper bite on the California Delta has definitely slowed down compared to a wide-open bite for trollers and lure tossers in the month of August . Dave Hammond , of Delta Pro Fishing , said , “ it is pretty normal to be slower compared to the month of August .” He went on to say , “ I expect the bite to get hot again in October .” Hammond says , “ I am still getting limits every trip out but I have to cover a lot more water to find the fish .” Mark Wilson confirms the bite has got a lot tougher but he is also still putting good numbers of fish in the boat .
