LAKE AMADOR … Trout plants continue at

1. Lake Amador. The top two fishing methods now are tossing PowerBait from shore and trolling Speedy Shiners from boats.

FOLSOM LAKE … Folsom Lake is

2. producing king salmon and rainbow trout. Trollers are using an array of lures at 15 to 30 feet deep.

FEATHER RIVER … The spring striper bite

3. has begun. The bait bite is picking up, but trolling with P-Line Predators and YoZuri lures or throwing jerk and glide baits is most effective now.

BULLARDS BAR RESERVOIR … Trollers are

4. scoring limits of kokanee salmon while using Brad’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs and spinners behind dodgers. Trolling with flies in the creek and river arms is producing beautiful rainbow trout.

GOOD BETS …
COLLINS LAKE … Anglers are landing

5. quality sized trout while using a variety of techniques. Nightcrawlers, Kastmasters, and PowerBait are all doing the trick. Expect improving bass action with warming weather.

LAKE OROVILLE … The king salmon

6. bite is productive for trollers using Brad’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs and hoochies, tipped with anchovy strips, behind dodgers. Most salmon range from 14” to 17” long, with an occasional bigger fish.

EAST BAY LAKES … The trout action

7. remains strong, since Shadow Cliffs, Quarry Lakes, Contra Loma Reservoir, Lake Del Valle, and Lake Chabot have all had recent trout plants.

LAKE CAMANCHE … Anglers are

8. bagging lots of trout while shore fishing in the South Shore Pond and on the main lake. Toss out PowerBait, nightcrawlers and an array of lures.

SLEEPERS …
SUISUN BAY … Sturgeon fishing remains

9. strong with some epic days in the mix. Eel, salmon roe, grass shrimp, and ghost shrimp are all producing fish.

SAN PABLO BAY … Trolling with

10. anchovies is producing good numbers of striped bass. The halibut bite is still tough, but should pick up soon.

PYRAMID LAKE … The Lahontan

11. Cutthroat are starting to chew and the prime fishing on Pyramid Lake is just around the corner. Trollers and fly fishers are both finding success.

MONTEREY BAY … Anglers are using

12. small jerk baits and Carolina rigs with small soft plastic baits to score good-sized barred surfperch off the beaches.

14 fishing will shift into high gear as the water clears from recent storms. Drift live minnows from boats or toss out pileworms and sardines from shore.

CALIFORNIA DELTA … Black bass

15. fishing should start getting good in the next couple to few weeks depending on the weather. Bass are in pre-spawn mode now and it won’ t be long until the spawn begins.

AMERICAN RIVER … Expect shad

16. fishing to begin the first week of May in the lower river. Cast small jigs and flies in chartreuse and pink for the best action.
