forward as you can, allowing other boats
coming in a place to land or at least drop
someone off.
A disturbing trend I have noticed for
a while, and it seems to be on the rise is
people, mostly younger, swimming in and
around the ramp and docks during the
warmer summer months.
This is not just an inconvenience when
you are trying to launch or recover your
boat, but unbelievably dangerous. Please
be cautious and report this to the proper
authorities.
True story, in summer 2018, I waited for
a group of kids to clear the water. I was
trying to dock on the downwind side, I
slid the boat up to the dock, cranked the
wheel to pull the rear of the boat over,
even with the dock. As I looked over my
shoulder and hit reverse, one of the kids
on the dock did a cannon ball into the
water 10 to 15 feet off my swim deck. I
quickly abandoned my maneuver. He had
no idea what almost happened.
Keep in mind, some people are faster
Once the snow melts and access is restored to
Bucks Lake, Bryan will begin offering trophy
mackinaw trips. This monster mack was
caught during one of Bryan’s charters last May.

at launching and recovering than others.
There are multi person “teams,” with
one driving the truck, and the other the
boat, that may not even have to tie off the
boat to the dock and are often times the
quickest in and out.
Then there are a lot, like myself, who
are most of the time alone and will have to
tie off, then return to the boat after parking
the truck. We all have our little routine we
go through, give people plenty of room
and time to accomplish it. And remember
to put in your plug!

and others in Plumas, Lassen and Sierra
Counties. The ability to fish multiple lakes

for the best bites.
In an effort to bring new people into
the outdoor sports Capt. Bryan caters to
clients of all skill levels, and as the future
of the sport, beginners and children are

Right now, Bryan is offering trophy
trout trips at Lake Almanor. Once the
snow melts, Bryan will begin fishing
Bucks Lake. Almanor is one of the few
Trophy Trout fisheries in the Sierras that
is open to fishing year round and also has
maintained access by road. This means it
can be fished literally year round.
Spring can provide action that can only
be summed up as “mind blowing”, this
is also the time of year when some of the
largest fish of the year are caught.
Bucks offers stunning views of granite
studded mountains and 5 species of fish
including, mackinaw, kokanee, browns,
rainbows and brook trout. Don’t let the
lake’s size fool you we net fish over the
20 pound mark every year.
Bucks, like many Sierra lakes at a mile
high elevation in not accessible by road
during the winter, and generally opens
up in early May. The best time for trophy
mackinaw is usually right after the lake
opens up as the big fish are on the move
looking for their next meal. The other 4
species are usually on the bite the entire
season shallow at first then moving deeper
as the summer moves along.
