“She had never been there before and
was anxious to see the famous lake.
Well, I guess she had a great guide - or
something!” Hemphill quipped. “Clara
doesn’t mess around. She mastered the
lake in just 3 hours - hooking and landing
a 7 lb. 2 oz. spotted bass. Yea, Clara, this
lake is EASY. What a pig – a giant pre-
spawn, gorgeous bass!! One doesn’t often
get to see a fish like that!.”
“Clara also caught a 4 lb. spot later in
the afternoon. I chimed in with a 5 lb. 1 oz.
spotted bass later in the afternoon also.

I lost another big spot. I couldn’t stop her
and she came off in about 10 seconds.
Bummer!,” said Hemphill.
“I always like the afternoons in the
spring, especially higher elevation lakes
like Bullards, Clear Lake, Scotts Flat,
Englebright,” said Hemphill. “Bullards
seems to be about 7 or 8 feet from
full with a few creeks still flowing. The
warmest temperature I found was 60-61
feet deep,”
“Try to find areas that have a lot of
afternoon sun and protected from the
wind,” he added.
Bullards Bar is still producing kokanee
salmon, although the bite isn’t as fast as it
was earlier this year.
“One customer reported that it took a
while to get his limit of kokanee on his
latest trip to the lake,” said Craig Newton
of Willfish Bait and Tackle in Auburn.
“Most of the fish are in the 11 to 12
inch range, with maybe one 13 incher
out of every five fish. Trollers are using
hoochies, spoons and spinners, tipped

Shallow Glass Lures: Hand Blown Glass Lures For Trout, Kokanee & Salmon
rothers Sam and Christopher
Shallow grew up in Vermont
fishing and loving the outdoors. In 2002,
the Shallow brothers learned the art of
blowing glass. When they moved to Cali-
fornia to pursue a career in glass blowing,
Sam had a great idea of combining their
two passions, Fishing and Glassblowing,
Creating Shallow Glass Lures.
Why Glass?
Well, that’s easy, it’s strong and its
bright. The type of Glass we use is a very
strong hard glass called borosilicate. It’s
