CAMANCHE LAKE
800,000 Baby Florida Strain
Bass Stocked!
BURSON - On Wednesday July 10,
Bass Unlimited from Willow Creek
Fisheries planted 4,700 lbs. of Florida
strain fingerling bass. These baby bass
were dropped at multiple sites around the
lake. Each pound equals to roughly 170
fingerlings,
“The math is about 800,000 baby bass
fish!,” said Terry Willard of the Camanche
Recreation Company. ‘We planted in
multiple locations throughout the entire
shoreline of the lake. These baby bass will
triple in size within the next month!”
The bass fishing is quite good at
Camanche now. Lawrence Rios reported
catching four hefty largemouth bass while
using 6′ swimbait around the deeper
points.
Trollers continue to bag good numbers
of rainbow trout at Camanche. For
example, fifteen-year old Candence
Lentz of Sutter Creek was out with her
granddad, Doug Brown, and both limited

Lake Camanche was edging up ever

above sea level from 232.61′ last week.
Now the lake is trending back down but
still reading 95% full with an elevation of

Pardee Lake was still reporting 100%

21 Lb. Mackinaw Tops Caples
Lake Catches
PIONEER – While rainbow trout are the
most abundant fish at Caples Lake this
summer, dedicated anglers have landed a
number of large mackinaws to 21 pounds
so far this summer.
Vince Huff caught and released a 21
lb. mackinaw measuring 37 inches long
while trolling at Caples this July. On the
same day, Matt Urbano bagged a 13 lb.
mackinaw, reported Jack Siegel at the
Caples Lake Resort.

behind flashers dragged along the bottom.
“Shore anglers and boaters are
also picking up rainbows while fishing
PowerBait, worms, spinners and spoons
near the mouth of Woods Creek,” said
Siegel.
Both boat ramps at the lake are open
to launching and the marina is open, with
boats available for rental.
Anglers are focusing on rainbow trout
at Lower Bear River Lake. Trollers are
using nightcrawlers and spoons behind
flashers, while bank fishermen are tossing
out PowerBait, nightcrawlers, Kastmasters
and Panther Martin spinners for a mixture
of planted and holdover rainbows.
The California Department of Fish and
Wildlife planted 2,000 pounds of rainbow
trout at Caples on June 19. Nearby
Silver Lake, known for its rainbow, brown
and mackinaw trout, received a plant of
rainbows on the same day. No reports on
fishing at Silver were available at press
time.

Channel Catfish Reign
Supreme
OREGON HOUSE - It’s been a cool
July for Collins Lake with highs flirting
in the nineties but not quite breaching
the 100F mark. With summer boating in
full swing fewer fishermen are trolling
the main channel and more are working
the coves and corners behind the 5MPH
buoys.
It shows up in the demographics of the
fish that are being caught. While there
were a few big trout caught this month
folks have brought up many more catfish,
crappie, redear & bass. Most of the bass
have been small/catch & release so let’s
talk catfish!

CLEARLAKE - Both the weather
and the weather are hot at Clear Lake.
“Boaters who stay out all day are catching
and releasing 20 to 40 fish,” said Tom
Guercio of Tom’s Guide Service. “I’ve
been fishing the mornings before it gets
too hot and catching 15 to 20 fish per trip.”
On his last trip, Guercio caught and
released 15 fish, topped by a 5.93 lb.
largemouth and a 3.5 lb. largemouth.
“I caught the two largest fish on topwater
poppers first thing in the morning,” said
Guercio. “I also hooked a lot of bass on
jigs. The fish I caught on jigs averaged 2
to 3 pounds each. I got off the water at
noon when it started getting hot.”
On his previous trip, he and his buddy
John Schrom of Kelseyville caught and
released 15 largemouths total. Guercio
landed the fish using jigs, while Schrom
caught them while using shakey heads.
