Off Miner’s Point there are trout holding 30 to 40 feet deep. In general, you can count of the fish to be fairly shallow early and during period of wind. When the water is glassy or the sun is on the water, the fish drop down deeper in the water column. Some anglers are scoring drifting worms under bobbers, but overall trolling is far more productive than bait drifting. If you plan on taking your RV to Eagle Lake this summer or fall be sure to ask the folks at the Eagle Lake RV Park about the Fish Sniffer special. No RV, no problem! FOLSOM LAKE Boaters Bag Bass, Rainbows and Kings EASTERN SIERRA Trout Options Plentiful For Visiting Anglers BISHOP - “At Lake Crowley we dealt with some afternoon winds the last couple of days, but fishing continues to pick up daily as more midges start to materialize and the damsels and callibaetis show up,” reported Doug Rodricks of Sierra Drifters Guide Service. “Some larger bodies of fish are hanging out in the bay now and being caught deep.” “Hot Creek has been on the radar as well and we have been getting some good fish on small nymphs and worms. The higher water has spread the fish our all along the creek,” said Rodricks. “The Upper Owens has some good dry fly fishing and deep water nymphing going for it. We are bracing for warmer weather which will melt off more snow at a Char caught several trout when he visited Eagle Lake this June, including this chrome bright rainbow. Of note is also the opening of Tioga Pass into Yosemite. Some of the lakes along the pass still have sheets of ice that are broken up and melting daily,” Rodricks revealed. “High flows dominate on the East Walker, but the river is coming down. If it drops another 100 cfs, it will be fishable in some spots if you know where they are. There are better options currently however. Bridgeport Reservoir is on the slower side still but will soon turn on as the weed beds begin to establish themselves. This will draw in the fish to the channels as they begin to feed With Pro Bass Fisherman on damselfly and callibaetis nymphs,” Rodricks predicted. We were fishing on the anchor with Brad’s Killer Fish in the dragon fly color.” Reimers said he observed just five fish caught by boaters and a few salmon hooked by the dozens of bank anglers on both sides of the river, although both him and his fishing partner, Chris Ditter, got off the river early. Reimers added, “If every one of the fish that hit our lures stayed on, we would have put four salmon in the boat.” Manuel Saldana, Jr., of MSJ Guide Service, reported one take down, but no fish landed on the opener. Fishing was fair on the latest trip to Folsom Lake by Don Paganelli of Paganelli’s Bass Fishing Experience. “A six-year-old boy and his dad hooked seven bass total,” said Paganelli. “The boy landed two largemouth and two smallmouth bass averaging 1 pound each, while the father lost the three fish he hooked. We got off the water by 11 a.m. when the lake started to get crowded with recreational boats.” “We fished 5 to 15 feet deep off the points in the North Fork with drop shot rigs,” noted Paganelli. “We used Robo Worms in Aaron’s Magic and Morning Dawn colors.” Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports Guide Service hasn’t been fishing for trout and salmon at Folsom for a couple of weeks, since he is concentrating on spring Chinook fishing on the lower Klamath River For both rainbows and landlocked kings at Folsom, Lampkin recommended fast trolling with chartreuse and chrome Speedy Shiners at 25 to 30 feet deep. “Target the rainbows at 25 feet deep and the kings at 50 feet deep,” he advised. Most of the kings are in the 1 to 2 lb. range, but Raz Ortiz landed a 7 lb. 4 oz. king while trolling a white Radical Glow tube at Folsom near the dam in June. Folsom Lake is holding 879,979 acre feet of water, 90 percent of capacity and 116 percent of average. The water level is 457.12 feet in elevation. - Dan Bacher CLEAR LAKE BASS FISHING TRIPS With Pro Guide Tom Guercio Book Early To Learn The Hottest Techniques For Catching Bass!
