To catch crappie now, you’re
going to have to fish around 15 feet
deep at Calero with small jigs and
swimbaits.
“Chesbro and Uvas reservoirs
are producing a mixture of crappie,
catfish and bass on a variety of
baits,” Juane added.
Striper fishing is “really slow”
during the heat of the summer at
San Luis Reservoir, said Juane.
“Shore anglers are experiencing
the best fishing while soaking shad,
bloodworms and other baits at
night,” he advised.

afternoon trip, but please call me first
before booking an afternoon trip, as we
are getting into monsoon season and it
may be too windy or unsettled to fish the
afternoons. Normally an afternoon trip is
booked 2-3 days in advance when there
is no room in the morning trips. Morning
trips start at 5am and we are off the water
before 1pm to take the second group out
and then we are off the water by 8 pm,” he
stated.
“Now the thing to remember is that the
mornings can be quite cold. With the
lake at an altitude of almost 6000’ many
forget that there is still snow on tops of
the mountains for a reason. When its 100
degrees in the valley, many clients are
surprised when they show up wearing
a tank top with shorts that it’s in the low
thirties s in the early morning hours. And if
there is a light breeze, it feels even colder.
So come prepared!! Dress in layers.
Remember you can always take layers off
when it warms up,” Netzel advised.
Tight Lines Guide Service will be fishing
Stampede Reservoir, Boca Reservoir, and
Donner Lake through Mid September.

“We are also releasing
another 50-75 fish per trip. It
has been nearly impossible to

10+ fish an hour, something
is wrong in your set-up and
you need to book a trip.,” said
Netzel.
