SALTWATER REPORTS

Incredible Fishing On Tap
For East Bay Saltwater
Enthusiasts
EAST BAY- “The live bait potluck
fishing continues to be outstanding,”
reported Captain Jonathan Smith of
Happy Hooker Sportfishing. “Today
we had an enjoyable day in the
central bay. For 19 anglers on board
we landed 23 halibut and full limits of
striped bass.”
“Yesterday we also fished the
central bay, our 22 anglers landed
limits of striped bass and a fish per
rod on halibut up to 20 pounds,” said
Smith.
Captain Chris Smith of the Pacific
Dream has been scoring well on
stripers and halibut inside the bay,
but he’s started mixing in some
bottomfish trips too.
“We hit the Farallons yesterday and
found large lings and fat sacks of
rockfish for all the anglers aboard. We
ended up three lingcod short of full
limits for our 19 anglers,” said Chris.
Captain Quang of the Goldeneye
2000 is focused on live bait potluck
fishing inside the bay and is rounding
up lots of halibut and bass. On his
most recent trip, Quang’s 27 anglers
landed 92 total keeper fish.
Shifting gears, salmon fishing
beyond the Golden Gate is absolutely
red hot. For anglers fishing aboard
the New Easy Riders limits have been
the rule for the past two weeks with
fish ranging up to 24 pounds. When
trolling near the beaches a few big
stripers have shown in the catches.
That’s a pretty exciting bonus!
Captain Hayden Mullins of Dragon
Sportfishing has now started targeting
salmon out of the Emeryville Marina
and his clients have been boating
consistent limits. Some days Hayden
has had full limits in the box by 9 in
the morning.

caught a bunch of impressive sevengill sharks.

The salmon action should last
throughout August as the schools
are just now starting to move into
the shorelines in their migration
towards the Golden Gate and into the
Sacramento River. With the hot bite,
reservations in both the campgrounds
and on the party boats is advised as
traffic at the launch ramp is expected
to be very high, particularly on
weekends.
