FRESHWATER REPORTS

ALMANOR
Anglers Experience Great Trout Action
CHESTER—“ We had a pretty epic day of fishing yesterday on Lake Almanor,” exclaimed Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’ s Guide Service on April 23.“ We had well over 20 hookups with 17 trout brought to the boat. We released some small ones and kept some nice rainbows. Matt capped the day off in style only seconds from finishing our last pass with an incredible 5.5 pound brown. That fight featured multiple airborne acrobatics and deep runs on the ultra-light gear we were using.”
“ I’ ve been trolling quickly in recent days. We are running mainly with Rapalas, but I’ ve been
mixing in some spoons too. These are the conditions we’ ve been waiting on at Almanor and it looks like we are into the hottest part of the spring bite right now,” said Roccucci.
Cliff Spediacci of Hook & Ladder Guide Service recently spent a day trolling at Almanor and reported very good rainbow trout action on quality fish.
“ We got our fish while trolling quickly with Speedy Shiners,” said Spediacci.“ The bite has really gotten consistent at Almanor recently.”

good at Lake Amador, boosted by big trout plants recently.
“ Oh Yeah, Its On!” said Elizabeth Lockhart at the Lake Amador Resort.“ We released 3600 lbs of Lightning Trout yesterday 4 / 24 / 17, on top of Friday 4 / 21
“ The trout are somehow still shallow 5-7 ft deep and relatively close to shore,” she said.“ Many boaters have been bait fishing the shore line in the back of the lake with great success. Shore fisherm3n have been doing good pretty much all around. Nightcrawlers, garlic PowerBait, and Power Eggs are all producing trout. When the sun is out shining, Kastmasters work well.”
Bass are still on the shore and fishing has been great.“ Some

AMERICAN RIVER
Releases Of 15,000 Cfs Continue
SACRAMENTO— Few anglers have reported fishing the lower American River lately, due to releases of 15,000 cfs from Nimbus Dam. The purpose of the high flows is“ storage management” at Folsom Lake, commented P. Manza, Bureau of Reclamation spokesman.
The high flows should attract good numbers of shad into the lower river, but local bait shops haven’ t reported any anglers getting out on the river yet.
A few shad are being taken on the Sacramento River
