Todd Hyske Wins Second Lake Amador NTAC With 7.12 Lb. Rainbow!

T
he second NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge
(NTAC) event at Lake Amador on April 29
featured some fabulous fishing for bank anglers
and boaters. Many anglers there reported catching
their limits, including many of the 3,500 pounds
of beautifully-colored Lightning Trout
planted in the reservoir before the
event.
The “Lightning Trout” is a hy-
bridized rainbow that is bright
yellow-to-gold in color and
sports a dark pink stripe that
runs horizontally along the
lateral line of the spotless
body.

“We weighed more Lightning Trout than the regu-
lar rainbow trout during the derby,” said Vince Harris,
owner of Anglers Press, who coordinated the event with
Sheldon Bright, Fish Sniffer staffer.
Todd Hyske won first place in the adult division by
capturing a 7.12 lb. rainbow. He won $350 and a first
place trophy.
Jesse Difede finished second with a 6.3 lb. rainbow,
winning $175 total.
“I was fishing PowerBait on 6 lb test line in the back
of the Jackson Creek arm from our boat when the fish
hit,” said Difede. “My fishing partners Joe and Sam also
limited out.”
The third through tenth place winners were (3) Reef
Smith, 5.17; (4) Mark Wixson, 3.06; (5) Jose Faria,
2.97; (6) Mike Geddie, 2.81; (7) Jeremy Fields, 2.68; (8)
Davin Bixler, 2.57; (9) Jason Andre, 2.5; and (10) Jim
Cross, 2.45.

Luke Garrett won first place in the youth divi-
sion, catching a beautiful 2.88 lb. rainbow trout.
He was trolling a nightcrawler behind a dodger.

The third through tenth place youth division
winners were: (3 Ricky Moccolough, 2.88; (4)
Luke Wichard, 2.33; (5) Andrew Lawlor, 2.31;
(6) Peter Scali, 2.27; (7) Ryder Peterson, 2.19; (8)
Noelani Archuleta, 2.15; (9) Allison Menchaca,
2.07; and (10) Blaine Edajo, 1.83.
Participants in the NTAC event used a variety
of lures and baits for the trout, including Power
Bait, nightcrawlers, Kastmasters and Rooster
Tailf spinners from shore and boat.

as Lures, Atlas-Mikes, Pro-Cure Bait Scents;
Daiwa reels and roods and others.
The next stop in the Norcal Trout Anglers
Challenge Tour will be the 2017 Tournament of
Champions at Collins Lake on November 4-5,
2017.
