Finally, about 9:30 I decided to change things up. I put Speedy Shiners on our rods and started trolling a little under 3 miles per hour. Almost immediately we started hooking fish and ended up with limits in the box in about 45 minutes. The next day I started out with Speedy Shiners and we got three quick limits and lost a couple fish too,” exclaimed Spediacci. “The trout are holding right about 20 feet deep and I had my lines running from 18 to 22 feet down. Color was important. I had my best luck on the Frog Pattern Speedy Shiner. I spoke with some other guys and it seemed like having a green lure was one of the keys. Our trout all ran about 2 pounds, but one of DARE TO COMPARE! VOL.36 • ISS. 17 the fish we lost was a heavyweight. We got it close to the boat once and I’d guess it weighed around 4 pounds,” concluded Spediacci. Most anglers are trolling for their trout at Eagle Lake, but the bait and bobber crowd has been catching a few fish too while fishing from anchored boats, but it takes patience. The best area has been the springs near Black Mountain. Threaded night crawlers drifted beneath bobbers in 18 to 30 feet of water have been drawing strikes. Anglers using fluorocarbon leaders are enjoying the best level of success.
