stripping streamers or stillwater nymphing. The shore fishing isn’ t as good as fishing from boats but they’ re still getting into some nice fish here and there, the weather has been great so it’ s not a bad plan to hang out on the shore and enjoy the scenery,” exclaimed Reid.
FEATHER / YUBA RIVERS
Boaters Land Some Bright Kings
YUBA CITY-“ Salmon fishing was a whole lot better this season than last year on the Feather River opener,” said Bob Boucke at Johnson’ s Bait and Tackle in Yuba City.
Curtis Grima, Chief of Staff for Assemblyman James Gallagher, landed an 18 lb. king salmon, his first-ever, while fishing from Boucke’ s boat in the Yuba City area. Boucke also landed a bright 10 lb. salmon.
“ We caught the two salmon while trolling blue # 6 Blue Fox spinners on the Feather from Boyd’ s Pump to the power lines,” he said.“ We didn’ t see other anglers in the same area hook fish, though.”
Upriver below the Thermalito Afterbay outlet, one father-son combo hooked three bright Chinooks up to 20 pounds while back trolling with plugs opening day. Shore anglers also hooked some salmon,
FOLSOM
Target Willows For Bass
FOLSOM- The surface water temperature at the Folsom Lake Marina has risen to 81 degrees, so you need to go deep for bass during the day.
“ Your top prospect is to drop shot in the willows of the main body at a depth of 20 to 25 feet deep,” said Alan Fong of Fisherman’ s Warehouse.“ Use Robo Worms in Morning Dawn and similar colors for the best action. Most of the fish are spotted bass, with some smallmouths and largemouths mixed in.”
You can expect to catch a few fish while throwing top water lures off the points early and late in the day.
Hardly anybody has been fishing for rainbow trout or king salmon lately.

Folsom Lake is holding 977,000 acre feet of water, 96 percent of capacity and 125 percent of capacity. The lake level is 462.40 feet in elevation, only 3.6 feet from full.
“ If you are coming to the lake on a weekend, plan to arrive early in the day,” the Folsom Lake Marina advised.“ Parking is very limited because of the high water and on weekends all entrances will probably close. A State Pass allows for free entrance into the park, but only if there is parking available.”

Reservoir. This week the lake management stocked bluegill and largemouth bass to boost the fish populations at the reservoir.
“ We stocked 2,000 2 to 4-inch bluegill, 1,000 8 to 10-inch largemouth bass and another 2,000 2 to 5-inch largemouth,” explained Brian Demmunik of the Los Vaqueros Marina.“ All these 5,00 fish are from the Freshwater Fish Company.”
“ We expect to plant another load of 1,000 8 to 10-inch largemouth later this week,” he added.“ If you catch any of undersized fish, please release them gently and allow them to grow up.”
Demmunik labeled the trout fishing as“ consistent” at the lake.
“ Trout fishing is fair, mostly in the morning, with fish being caught from around the reservoir,” he reported.“ There are lots of fish being caught from Oak Point to past the Rock Wall. South Cove also continues to produce a good number of fish. Lot of anglers are catching two or three fish, with others catching lmits.”
The baits of choice for shore anglers are garlic-scented PowerBait, nightcrawlers or Kastmaster lures
Striper fishing is still mixed, with fewer“ shakers” and more medium-to-large fish being caught. The pier by the Marina and the area from Oak Point south towards South Cove are producing decent numbers of stripers. From shore, cut anchovies and shad are the top baits.
“ Catfish are infrequent, though we planted 2,000 pounds of catfish in the last two weeks,” he said. Use chicken livers, anchovies and mackerel for the cats.
The water clarity remains good. Water temperature is up slightly, at 71 degrees this week.
The reservoir is storing 151,600 acre-feet of water, 95 percent of its 160,000 acre-foot capacity. Pumping has stopped and the reservoir will slowly drop through the summer.- Dan Bacher
NEW MELONES LAKE
Black Bass Transition To Summer Pattern
ANGELS CAMP- Black bass have moved into their summer pattern at New Melones. Boaters are tossing out top water lures early and late in the day, then switch over to subsurface lures and the finally to deep water techniques.
“ The water temperatures jumped 10 degrees within the past few weeks, and most of the lake is a warm 85 degrees at the surface,” said John Liechty of Xperience Guide Service.“ The bass have completed their spawn, and summer techniques are in play.”
“ Topwater lures such as the River2Sea Whopper Plopper in all three sizes are working early before anglers switching over to subsurface lures such as swimbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, or crankbaits once the midday heat arrives. Once you have found an area holding fish,

I have been changing over to a drop-shot or Senko to keep the bite going,” Liechty tipped. A few quality kokanee are hitting depths between 45 and 70 feet in the main lake from the dam to the spillway with pink hoochies behind a pink / pearl white Vance’ s Dodger, but trout continue to offer the top fishing, according to Gene Hildebrand of Glory Hole Sports.
Gary Burns of‘ Take It To the Limit’ Guide Service has landed quality rainbows while targeting kokanee in the same areas.
“ We are a little shy on the kokanee this year, but over the past 3 trips, we put 25 bows in the boat this week and lost 5 kokanee. Most rainbows are 2 to 4 pounds with the occasional 5 pounder,” he stated.
Burns has been using pink and purple Apex lures or pink Wiggle Hoochies, tipped with garlic corn or a piece of nightcrawler, behind a Rocky Mountain Tackle Dodger in pink or orange moonshine.
The crappie bite is improving once again with small to medium minnows or crappie jigs near vertical structure and submerged tree cover.
Catfishing is also improving in the hot weather with the whiskerfish holding near the banks with submerged rock. Stinkbaits, a ball of nightcrawlers, chicken livers, or live minnows are working best.
New Melones is 91 percent of capacity and 1068.00 feet above sea level.
LAKE OROVILLE
Spotted Bass Top The Catches
OROVILLE – The hot weather has driven many anglers to fish the cooler high elevation lakes or coastal waters. Bass fishing is worth a shot at Oroville, while the landlocked king salmon remain nearly nonexistent.
Most anglers are fishing in the early morning or evening hours. You can expect to nail a lot of spotted bass from 10 to 14-1 / 2 inches long, along with an occasional larger fish.
The 30 to 35 foot depth is best, due to the warm surface water temperature of 80 degrees. Use drop shot rigs with Robo Worm in morning dawn and MM111 patterns and tubes for the top action. Tossing out top water
