Salmon lead the angling parade at this point with anglers slamming limits of kings that range up to 30 pounds. Berkeley’s New Easy Rider, with Captains Joe and Joey Gallia running the boat, have nailed limits every day for the past week and the fish have been running large. The average salmon goes 8 to 12 pounds on the big fish run 20 to 30 pounds. Rigged bait teamed with small inline flashers has been the winning combination. Live bait potluck fishing for stripers and halibut has been amazing for anglers fishing aboard Berkeley’s Happy Hooker with Captains Chris and Jonathan Smith. For example, one day last week they put 23 halibut to 34 pounds into the box along with 36 bass that ranged into the teens. On another recent outing anglers aboard the Hooker hammered 23 limits of bass to 20 pounds and added 10 halibut to 18 pounds. Captain James Smith’s of the California Dawn has also been putting his anglers on epic live bait action. On one typical trip last week anglers scored 25 limits of bass to 15 pounds along with 25 halibut to 30 pounds. On another day Smith’s anglers wacked 20 limits of bass to 24 pounds and scored 10 bonus halibut to 30.
