Bucks Kokanee Hot, Trouters Continue To Score At Almanor

CHESTER- At Bucks Lake anglers are scoring consistent limits of kokanee salmon that run 12 to 13 inches. Most days, most anglers are off the water early with limits.

Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’ s Guide Service has been fishing for Bucks Lake kokanee for over a month with great results.

This season Roccucci has become a great believer in the blades, spinners and hoochies offered by Paulina Peak Tackle and is now using their gear almost exclusively at Bucks.

At Lake Almanor, trout fishing has slowed now that the fish have spread out and are feeding on pond smelt. Most of the trout

currently being hooked are rainbows in the 2.5 to 4 pound class.

Patience and a brisk troll with smelt imitating lures is the winning approach. Gulp! Minnows teamed with 6 inch Sling Blades are working as are Needlefish and Speedy Shiners trolled without blades.

Smallmouth fishing is rated as fair to slow, with some decent topwater action taking place during the last hour of daylight along the lake’ s west shore.

When the night time temperatures start dropping into the 30’ s and Almanor’ s surface temperature begins dropping, anglers can expect some outstanding minnow plug trolling for big browns and rainbows, but that action is likely 6 to 8 weeks in the future.

34.32 Lb. Bag Wins Moonlighter Tournament

IONE- The team of Wally Gallagher and Alan Glowski won first place in the Moonlighter Bass Tournament held at Lake Amador this August with 10 fish weighing a total of 34.32 pounds.

They also bagged the big fish weighing 9.36 pounds. They took home $ 1100 for their big win, according to Elizabeth Lockhart at the Lake Amador Resort.

The team of Steven Botiller and Dennis Torre came in second with 32.74 pounds. They won $ 600.
