I went out with my son Dillon in the early morning for an hour or so for two rainbows apiece from 3.5 to 6.79 pounds trolling at 75 feet with a pink / purple hoochie, tipped with a nightcrawler behind a half silver / half brass dodger.”
For bass, John Liechty of Xperience Fishing Guide Service took out fellow bass angler Josh Parris of San Andreas this week, and he said,“ We put on a crankbait clinic with squarebills, just pounding them, but the following day, the reaction bite died completely. We ended up with only a few fish on topwater lures in the early mornings before all of our action took place on the bottom with plastics on the drop-shot.”
‘ The wind died on Friday, and the temperature went up 10 degrees. We still had a great time with 40 to 50 fish with a lot of‘ rats’ with one out of three being keeper-size,” he stated.
Gene Hildebrand of Glory Hole reported good catfish action in Angels Cove for whiskerfish to 7 pounds with anchovies, mackerel, sardines, or chicken livers while Angels Cove is also producing crappie along the shorelines with tubejigs in white or pearl along with live minnows on a drop-shot rig.
Glory Hole Sports is holding their annual month-long Catfish Derby from October 1 to November 1 with an entry fee of $ 10.00.

LAKE OROVILLE
Bass Fishing Rated Best Bet
YUBA CITY – Fishing reports for king salmon on Lake Oroville are nearly nonexistent because most anglers are fishing in the Feather River from the outlet to Verona.
“ The guys that I normally get reports from on Lake Oroville salmon fishing are all fishing the Feather River for kings now,” reported Bob Boucke of Johnson’ s Bait and Tackle.
If you want to target salmon at the lake, troll hoochies, tipped with anchovy strips, behind dodgers near the Green Bridge. The fish average 14 inches long.
The folks getting out on the lake are targeting the abundant spotted bass. The surface water temperature is around 78 degrees, but should soon drop with the cooler fall weather we’ re now seeing. Most of the bass are in the 10 to 15 inch range, with a few fish over 15 inches.
For better quality fish, try throwing out top water lures such as Zara Spooks and Pop- Rs early and late in the day. After the sun goes on the water in the morning, it’ s best to fish with shakey heads, drop shot rigs and tubes at 20 to 40 feet deep.
Lime Saddle Marina, Bidwell Canyon and Loafer Creek launch ramps were all still open at press time.
Lake Oroville is holding 1,542,396 acrefeet of water, 44 percent of capacity and 74 percent of average. The lake level is 735.08 feet in elevation, 164.92 feet from full.

IONE – Fishing pressure continues to be very light at Lake Pardee, but bass fishing is excellent now, according to John Loverin of ProCast Fishing.
“ My last trip, a solo venture, produced over 15 fish, including 12 smallmouths in the 1-1 / 2 to 4 lb. range,” said Loverin.“ I experienced the best action in the Narrows off submerged points. I used top water lures, including

Whopper Poppers and wakebaits, and drop shot rigs.”
There are plenty of planted and holdover rainbow trout swimming in the reservoir now, but very few anglers are targeting them. The Calaveras Trout Farm stocked 2.000 pounds of rainbows averaging 1-1 / 2 pounds each on September 15. They will stock another 2,000 pounds on September 29.
As the weather cools, bank anglers should find increasing success on rainbow trout in the main recreation area and at the woodpile. Throw out nightcrawlers, PowerBait and Power Eggs for the big, bold rainbows.
Kokanee salmon are currently moving into spawning mode at Pardee. Trollers interested in nailing some late season kokes should use spinners, hoochies, wiggle hoochies and Apex lures, tipped with white corn, at up to 70 feet deep from the south end through the mouth of the Mokelumne River past Deer Island.
The new hours for the rest of the season will be Wednesday through Sunday from 7 am to 3 pm, according to Kaitlin McCloskey at the Pardee Lake Recreation Area. The pool is also closed for the season.
Pardee is 94 percent of capacity, in great shape for this time of year.
REDDING / RED BLUFF
Salmon Bite Improves Greatly …
REDDING- Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River is a good news, better news proposition. First and foremost, there are good numbers of fish in the system and anglers are enjoying multiple hookups per outing. The better news is that stronger numbers of big fish are expected to charge up river at any time.
“ I’ m doing well fishing a combination of Flatfish and Pautzke cured roe up above Red Bluff,” reported Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’ s Guide Service.“ We are getting quite a few jacks right now, but there have been some bigger fish to about 25 pounds
This happy angler was fishing the Sacramento River with Captain James Netzel in late August and ended up landing this awesome chrome bright king salmon.

showing up too. Judging by the fact that we are into the leading edge of the run, I’ m thinking more and more bigger fully mature fish will begin showing very soon.”
“ The fishing on the Sacramento has gone from slow to fair to good in the span of the past two weeks,” related Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service.“ I’ m still
